The West already regrets not recognizing the referendum on Crimea’s accession to the Russian Federation earlier, without further escalation of the situation. This statement was made by the permanent representative of Crimea to the President of the Russian Federation, Deputy Prime Minister of the regional government Georgy Muradov. RIA News.

According to his information, despite the fact that the Russian and Ukrainian sides signed an Agreement on the status and conditions of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) in Ukraine in 1997, the threat to the existence of the fleet still continued. At the same time, the Ukrainian side continued to raise the issue of terminating the presence of the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, which poses a serious threat to Russia.

Crimean Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that, despite the discontent of Moscow’s Western opponents, returning the region to the Russian Federation helps provide the country with strategic stability and security in the southern direction.

“This explains <…> The West’s hysterical reluctance to recognize the legitimate referendum in Crimea,” Muradov concluded.

In March 2014, a referendum was held in Crimea, as a result of which the peninsula became a territorial part of Russia and Sevastopol became a city of federal importance.

Muradov before him warned Western countries about taking revenge on the Russian Federation in the event of a direct military conflict between the alliance and Russia.

Previously permanent representative of Crimea statedthat a new counterattack would destroy Ukraine.
