Civil Guard officer faces lengthy prison term for sexual crimes against minors and possession of child pornography
A Civil Guard officer has been sentenced to nearly ten years in prison after admitting to paying for the sexual abuse of two minors, aged 15 and 17, in the Inca area of Majorca. He also admitted to taking photographs of the encounters. At his home in the center of the Inca barracks, investigators found about 50,000 child pornography files. The defendant acknowledged the facts during today’s hearing in Palma State Court. The prosecution and defense team had previously reached a compliance agreement. The initial prison sentence proposed by the public prosecutor, which was close to 30 years, was mitigated by the agreement. The agreement includes a compensation clause in which the defendant must pay 20,000 euros to each of the two victims, a total of 20,000 euros already delivered two weeks earlier to support the victims. The defendant faced charges including sexual exploitation, incitement to prostitution, embezzlement of minors, arranging sexual activity for minors, possession of child pornography, and related offenses.
The events took place in 2020. A 54-year-old civilian security guard used a dating app to contact a 15-year-old. Their conversations spanned several months before they arranged a meeting. The guard took the young person to a secluded area in Inca, where sexual activity occurred after he gave her his cellphone and 80 euros. Social services arrived shortly after, and the teenager was placed in a protected setting.
On the same dates, the officer used the same dating app to contact another person under 17. He coerced that individual to send sexually explicit photos and videos. Prosecutors say the officer exploited the victim’s vulnerability, including a documented mental disability, to pressure participation in illicit activities.
According to the prosecution, there were at least two additional meetings where the officer attempted to pursue sexual contact with the second minor. During these encounters, he recorded video and took photographs of the encounters, using a ring as payment for his appointments.
The investigation culminated with a late-April 2021 arrest, prompted by a complaint from the first victim’s parents. Commanding officers of the Civil Guard conducted a search at the Inca barracks and discovered nearly 50,000 child pornography files on four electronic devices, along with a small number of photographs of one of the victims. There is no evidence showing that the suspect shared this material with others.
