A 60-year-old man, a neighbor of Alcoy, was sentenced by the Alicante Court this Monday to a total prison term of 19 years and 9 months for crimes including sexual exploitation of minors, corruption of minors, and the display of pornographic material. The defendant acknowledged guilt following a harmonization agreement between the prosecutor’s office, the special prosecutor’s office, and the defense. From the two originally proposed sentences of 25 and 30 years, the charges were reduced to 19 years and 9 months after the defendant admitted the facts. The court delivered the verdict in the same courtroom with a restrained, formal tone, announcing the condemnation with specific terms. [1]
The sentence comprises two separate seven-year terms for corruption involving minors, five years for ongoing sexual abuse of children under 16, and nine months for displaying pornographic material. One of the alleged victims is said to be the defendant’s great-nephew, aged about 12 to 13 at the time of the offenses. In addition to the custodial sentences, the defendant is ordered to pay compensation and moral damages totaling 28,000 euros—18,000 euros to one minor and 10,000 euros to the other minor—as part of the consequences of the ruling. [2]
Between Alicante and Alcoy
Several proceedings took place in Alicante, with others in Alcoy, the town where the defendant resided at the time of his February 2020 arrest by police officers from the National Police Technological Crimes Group. The case underscores the two municipalities as the centers of the alleged offenses and the investigation that followed. [3]
The defendant admitted guilt during both the prosecution and private prosecutions, which were brought in part by the family of one of the minor victims. The admission of guilt marked a key turning point in the proceedings and set the stage for the harmonization agreement that led to the final sentence. [4]
In statements made through the course of the proceedings, the defendant acknowledged exposing his underage great-nephew to improper touching and to the photographing and videotaping of sexual material involving the child and other young relatives. He also admitted downloading and storing images that depicted pedophilic content. These admissions formed the backbone of the case presented by prosecutors and the private family prosecutors. [5]
Photos and videos
The investigation traced the earliest acts back to 2010, when the defendant is alleged to have photographed and recorded a sexual video involving a minor aged between 13 and 16. Later, between 2018 and 2019, the defendant is said to have subjected a family-related minor to more disturbing acts inside the family home, including touching their private parts, taking photographs of intimate areas, and displaying sexually explicit audiovisual material. The case drew on a substantial body of digital evidence collected during the investigation. [6]
Authorities reported that the allegations involved two minors and that the case grew from a broader pattern of harmful conduct. The family and investigators followed a trail of communications and media found in the defendant’s home that pointed to ongoing exploitation and possession of child pornography. A nationwide criminal investigation into child sexual exploitation and distribution of such material intersected with the local case, reinforcing the seriousness of the offenses. [7]
When police searched the Alcoy residence in February 2020, agents from the Provincial Criminal Police, specifically the Technological Crimes Group, found the digital files and secured the scene. This search was a critical step in assembling the evidentiary basis for the charges. The arrest and subsequent detention initiated a lengthy legal process that culminated in the sentence handed down the previous day. [8]
1,136 files
Authorities reported discovering 1,136 files involving minors and sexual content, with the investigation revealing that the suspect possessed child pornography and was involved in at least two cases of bribery of minors. One of the victims linked to these cases was the defendant’s great-nephew. The breadth of the digital collection amplified the case’s seriousness and influenced sentencing considerations. After his February 2020 arrest, the defendant was placed in Fontcalent prison, where he has remained in custody to serve the sentence established by the Alicante Court. [9]
The proceedings reflect the intersection of local law enforcement and national investigative efforts aimed at addressing child sexual exploitation and online distribution of explicit material. The sentence underscores the legal system’s stance on protecting minors and signaling the consequences of offenses that involve family networks and digital media. [10]
