A recent United Surveys poll conducted for Wirtualna Polska shows that 67.8 percent of Poles oppose early parliamentary elections, with the exception of PiS voters, among whom 56 percent support such a move. The survey explored public opinion on whether, given the tense political climate in Poland, early elections should be held.
PiS electorate “for”
The largest group in this metric is 67.8 percent, who oppose early elections. Within this cohort, 40.3 percent answered that they are absolutely against it, and 27.5 percent said they don’t think it will happen. A quarter of respondents, 24.8 percent, expressed the opposite view. Among all participants, 13 percent answered definitely yes and 11.8 percent probably yes, while 7.4 percent stated they had no opinion.
wp.pl notes that the answers shift when looking at views from different party voters. Among Law and Justice supporters, 56 percent favored early elections, with 32 percent choosing either definitely yes or probably yes. On the other hand, 36 percent held the opposite view, including 25 percent probably not and 11 percent definitely not. Eight percent chose the option I don’t know/it’s hard to say.
Opinion of coalition voters
Voters backing the ruling coalition largely insisted that early elections would be a bad idea, with 93 percent expressing that stance.
Seventy percent said absolutely not, 26 percent preferred not, and 6 percent held the opposite view. A small 3 percent each said fairly yes or certainly yes, while 1 percent had no opinion.
Among Third Way supporters, 96 percent also believed premature elections should not occur. Fifty-five percent answered probably not, and 41 percent definitely not. Four percent took the opposite view, with 3 percent saying definitely yes and 1 percent probably yes.
Similarly, 96 percent of Left-wing voters opposed early elections. Seventy-one percent said absolutely not, and 25 percent added I don’t think so. Four percent of this group expressed the opposite view.
Among Confederation voters, 54 percent believed early elections were not a good idea (30 percent absolutely not, 24 percent preferably not). Thirty-five percent held the opposite view, with 26 percent probably yes and 9 percent definitely yes. Eleven percent did not express an opinion among Confederation supporters.
The survey was conducted from January 26 to 28 using CATI and CAWI methods and involved a sample of 1,000 respondents.
