Black Myth: Wukong hides a host of secrets for players to uncover, with some choices reshaping how the game feels on the ground. This guide highlights the key steps that let players swap the equipment they collect for stronger options, giving them a steady edge as they push through the realms. The focus is practical: what to do to replace gear efficiently while keeping the pace enjoyable and challenging.

How to Get Luna Scales

The Luna Scales quest begins in chapter two, yet players can return later to complete it if they missed it the first time. The path is straightforward, but it rewards persistence with a valuable artifact that unlocks access to a wave of dragon-like bosses across multiple chapters.

Return to the arena where the First Prince of Quicksand was first encountered, and locate the Sand Gate Village altar in the Valley of Despair. One wall stands out: it isn’t a mere rock but a cluster of small Buddhas. It can be broken either with the boss’s help or solo. Even if the first encounter didn’t break it, use the Wandering Wight as your spirit and let it attack. The quickest method to fill the charge is to rest near the shrine, then position close to the Buddha wall and headbutt the spirit. If a gap doesn’t appear immediately, adjust position and try again. Inside the wall is a chest containing Luna Scales, the artifact that grants access to a wider roster of dragon-like bosses in future chapters.

Where to Find Chen Long

The journey continues in chapter three, toward the Bitter Lake altar on the North Coast. If the main story has already reached chapter three in full, the boss will still appear; otherwise it’s fine to advance the plot a bit to reach this zone. From the altar, look toward the water and turn right; you’ll find the elder-dragon-like figure, a small but formidable foe stationed near a makeshift arena in the water. This mini-boss relies on the Luna Scales found in chapter two to unlock its full potential in combat.

Defeat Chen Long, and the dragon will end the fight by requesting a healing pill, which can be obtained from Xu Dogu. This moment marks a turning point where players gain a valuable ally and a practical remedy to keep moving forward.

How to Help Chen Long and Find the Forge

Xu Dogu, encountered in chapter two, is the source of strengthening medicines that permanently enhance performance. With chapter two complete, Xu Dogu resides in the Tiger Temple basement. Speak with him about Chen Long, and the needed pill will be granted immediately. After this, return the pill to the dragon in his nearby dwelling. A cutscene then reveals a scroll labeled the Painted Kingdom, which opens a gateway to a secret area. There, Xu Dogu, Chen Long, the drinking monkey, and the blacksmith tiger arrive in a shared space, a small haven within the game world.

The dog continues to supply heavenly tinctures, and the dragon helps cultivate seeds to craft standard tinctures. The drinking monkey works on improving the bottles. The most notable character is the blacksmith, who can upgrade previously found armor, increasing its quality and effects. This becomes especially important when certain ammo properties look attractive, yet offer less protection than the latest armor—upgrades can balance offense and defense. Players may also challenge the tiger in combat, though the confrontation is notably tough and should be approached with caution rather than rushed.

Be sure to activate the local shrine so it remains a quick return point. Since key friendly NPCs gather here, players can switch between them without bouncing between chapters. Note that Stone Man isn’t present in this area, but he can always be reached on another route if needed.
