Black Myth: Wukong locks away a stash of secrets for players to uncover, and several of these discoveries reshape gameplay itself. This guide focuses on how to swap equipment you find, with a spotlight on two pivotal discoveries: the Luna Scales and the forge network that opens up after them.
How to Get Luna Scales
The Luna Scales quest begins in chapter two, but players can return later to complete it if they skipped it the first time through.
Return to the arena where the First Prince of Quicksand met his end. The nearest altar is Sand Gate Village, nestled in the Valley of Despair. Look for a wall that isn’t just rock but a cluster of tiny Buddhas. It can be broken either with the boss present or on your own. If the wall remains intact after the First Prince’s help, switch to Wandering Wight as your spirit and have it strike. The quickest way to charge the spirit is to rest near the shrine, standing as close as possible to the Buddha wall, then headbutt the spirit. If a gap doesn’t appear right away, try again with a little movement. Inside the wall, a chest holds Luna Scales. This artifact unlocks access to a larger collection of dragon-like bosses across chapters.
Where can you find Chen Long?
Next, venture to chapter three and head to the Bitter Lake altar on the North Coast. If the third chapter is fully completed, the boss will still appear. If players have not reached this area yet, progress the plot to unlock it first.
From the altar, glance toward the water and turn right. The target appears near the water’s edge, an elder dragon in miniature form. He resides in a shallow arena created there, acting as a mini-boss. The crucial detail is that the area remains empty without Luna Scales collected in chapter two.
Defeat Chen Long, and he will pause the fight of his own accord to request a healing pill, which can be obtained from Xu Dogu.
How to Help Chen Long and Find the Forge
Xu Dogu is encountered in chapter two and is the source of strengthening medicines capable of permanently enhancing performance. With chapter two fully completed, Xu Dogu resides in the Tiger Temple basement. Talk to him about Chen Long and you will receive the pill immediately.
After giving the pill to the dragon in his small nearby dwelling, a cutscene unfolds showing a scroll marked Painted Kingdom. This artifact transports players to a hidden area where Xu Dog, Chen Long, the drinking monkey, and the tiger blacksmith are magically gathered together for a shared stopover.
The dog continues to provide heavenly medicines, while the dragon helps cultivate seeds to produce standard tinctures. The drinking monkey improves the bottle, and the tiger blacksmith plays a central role in upgrading armor and equipment. Upgrades increase armor quality and effects, which matters when ammunition has strong properties but armor protection is weaker. The tiger can be challenged to a fight, but the encounter is very challenging, so players should proceed cautiously.
Remember to activate the local shrine so it can always serve as a fast return point. Since many helpful NPCs are assembled here, players can switch between them quickly without bouncing between chapters. Note that Stone Man isn’t present, but there is always a way to reach him later if needed.
