Both the Rojales and Guardamar events emphasize Vega Baja’s growing support for chess and for Promochess itself. The organizers note that an international tournament is being planned to place southern Alicante on the world chess map. The Rojales edition achieved record participation, and the overall momentum has impressed the organizers, who report widespread community backing and increasing confidence in the project.
There is a sense of momentum as other Vega Baja towns express interest in joining next year’s schedule. The message to nearby municipalities is clear: the Promochess format resonates with players and spectators alike, and regional interest continues to rise.
this sunday
The provincial league is enjoying notable success, with the next stage slated for Sunday, February 26, in Guardamar del Segura. Marcos García, a master nominee of the International Chess Federation and the sporting director of Promochess, oversees the organization and continues to attract a large number of players across all four scheduled dates. The series began at the Luis Vives School in Elche, moved to the San Alberto Magno School in Monforte del Cid, and now travels through Vega Baja from Rojales to Guardamar.
Promochess City Chess Track receives backing from the Alicante County Council as well as the municipalities of Elche, Crevillent, Guardamar, Alicante, Rojales and Monforte del Cid. The Dama de Guardamar Chess School and the Montfort School are also contributing to the effort, helping to widen access and participation across the region.
