The provincial chess league is returning with renewed momentum. The initiative plans to reclaim education centers, pavilions, and hotels across the province to host the events. The Promochess circuit continues to offer a compelling prize pool, surpassing 7,000 euros, and showcases a robust calendar from January through June.

Interest remains high. The comeback is driven by strong demand from players across the region, with some tournaments drawing close to 200 participants. Initially, Promochess explored alternative formats or organizational structures for these events, but the growing number of provincial competitors has solidified the circuit as the preferred model.

Chess excitement continues in Alicante

The second edition introduces notable innovations, including two tournaments that will be eligible for FIDE rapid Elo ratings. The Elo rating system assesses a player’s strength based on performance against others. Currently, Federated chess players hold FIDE Elo numbers that can range from around 1,300 for casual players to well into the 2,800s for top-tier competitors. The rapid-rating events are planned to take place in the towns of Guardamar del Segura and Alicante.

The circuit resumes at San Alberto Magno School in Monforte del Cid, a venue with its own chess emphasis in the province. The opening event is scheduled for Sunday, January 28. The next gathering follows on Sunday, February 18, at the CEIP Lo Romero in Sant Joan d Alacant.
