The Catalan artist will enter Barça’s storied history when Xavi’s squad welcomes Real Madrid for the clásico.

Historic day, one worth remembering. Barcelona announced that in the Clásico against Real Madrid on March 19, the team will wear the Motomami logo by Rosalía on its shirt, replacing the usual Spotify emblem as noted by the club.

Who is Rosalía, which team does she root for, what does Motomami mean, why is she connected to Barcelona, and why is the logo on the shirt?

Rosalía Vila Tobella, simply Rosalía, is a singer, songwriter, producer and actress born in Barcelona in 1992. Raised in the town of San Esteban Sasroviras within a family business background, she showed early on a deep passion for music with a special focus on flamenco.

Her path led to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia, where she crossed paths with many emerging artists. While pursuing studies, she began performing on stage as an opening act for other artists such as Miguel Poveda. Her first major commercial breakthrough came with a collaboration with her then partner C. Tangana on the track Anter to die, which preceded her solo debut in 2017 titled Los Angeles.

Her early work carried a intimate, classic flamenco essence, accompanied by guitar by Raül Refree and centered on themes of mortality, later expanding under Universal Music. In 2018, a global breakthrough followed with the release of the second album El Mal Querer, a daring blend of genres anchored by a turbulent love story, with the track Malamente becoming a defining hit.

Rosalía later released several singles with international artists such as The Weeknd, Ozuna, Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish. In March 2022 she released Motomami, an album that solidified her status as a global Spanish music reference, and it is the reason the Barça shirt will carry her logo in the Clásico.

What does Motomami mean?

Moto derives from Japanese and conveys strength or resilience. Mami represents a woman. Rosalía combined the terms to honor her grandmother and mother, who are motorcycle enthusiasts as well.

“Moto expresses the bolder, more aggressive side, while Mami reflects vulnerability. The album includes high-energy drum tracks alongside more intimate ballads,” Rosalia explained.

Which team is Rosalía from?

It isn’t a mystery. The Catalan artist is a devoted Barcelona supporter. She even appeared at the Santiago Bernabéu cheering on Barça in a Real Madrid match.

Barça declaration

Barça and the branding choice celebrate MOTOMAMI’s anniversary and its international impact. The project has earned broad critical praise and international recognition, including a Grammy win for best Latin alternative or urban album awarded earlier this year. The collaboration marks a notable moment in contemporary music as the club unites sport and culture on a global stage.
