We have to change, we have to find ourselves again; keep everything that is good and what we have achieved, but at the same time respond to these ambitions, these aspirations of Poland, which made themselves felt on October 15 – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told the Salon24.pl portal when asked whether PiS should reform.
In Friday’s conversation, Morawiecki was asked, among other things: about PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński’s words from an interview for PAP, in which the PiS leader said that his term as PiS president will end in 2024, before the presidential elections.
A new party leader will then be elected. Unless extraordinary events occur, it will be carried out this way. The PiS congress will decide who will be the new leader. I don’t think it can be someone with short experience in our party. It must be someone a generation younger than me, tested in fire and ice water. We have such people
– Kaczyński said then.
Morawiecki – asked on Friday whether he “fits the profile” of the successor to PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński – replied:
I hope that President Jarosław Kaczyński will consider who his deputy will be in ten years’ time. Then I meet these criteria even better. I have experienced several icy waters and several fires, not only in the party field, but in general I really believe that if something goes wrong, President Jarosław Kaczyński is even more energetic and ready to take action, and I am happy that he commits our enormous political camp together, because it makes the whole.
Asked how PiS should change and whether it should reform, Morawiecki said the party would be making a “colossal mistake” if it did not try to read as many clues as possible from the October 15 elections.
We have to change, we have to find ourselves again. (…) We must preserve all that is good. We have achieved all this, but at the same time we are responding to these ambitions, to these aspirations of the Poles, which became tangible on October 15. We are aware of this. We are working on this very deeply and we will be ready with new proposals for the local elections
– Morawiecki noted.
The head of government was also asked about the draft law providing for disclosure of the assets of spouses of representatives of state and local governments.
“I have left enormous amounts of money to serve Poland.
A few days ago, KO MPs submitted to the Sejm a draft amendment to the law on restrictions on the exercise of business activities by persons performing public functions. The project presupposes the introduction of a rule according to which the separate assets of spouses of representatives of state and local governments will be subject to disclosure in the asset declaration.
The Prime Minister said he hoped the law would also include a provision on, for example, proving assets earned abroad in the past five or 10 years.
I am convinced that this will also lead to more transparency for those who made money abroad
– said the Prime Minister.
I have left enormous amounts of money to serve Poland. Everything is visible in my statements. All stock market reports have shown for twenty years how much money I have earned, and it is difficult for me to be responsible for my wife, because of course she is a completely independent person, but knowing her, she will certainly have no problems with it .
– said Morawiecki.
The Prime Minister also addressed the question of how long – in his opinion – the current opposition will rule.
I think the first time interval is the next local government and European elections. The second is the presidential election, where reality could fundamentally change, and the third is the next election in four years. But I cannot rule out that this will change much faster. When we look at the programs, if they wanted to implement these programs, but I hope that the citizens will hold them accountable for this, there are numerous contradictions and they will lead to enormous friction.
– said Morawiecki.
He added that he viewed the opposition to a large extent as a “total opposition,” an opposition that did not see the good the government was doing and tried at all costs to “destroy it using street and foreign methods.” .
I hope that if this opposition becomes a democratic coalition, it will be truly democratic
– said Morawiecki.
