Media coverage has portrayed a stark clash between political groups in Poland, focusing on leadership struggles and strategic alignments. A Law and Justice (PiS) MP, Adam Andruszkiewicz, commented to wPolityce.pl that critics who claim a new camp has been built rely on media narratives, while the ruling Platform has not managed to overcome the opposition coalition led by Law and Justice. He noted that Donald Tusk was defeated by President Jarosław Kaczyński in a direct confrontation between the two blocs.
In recent elections, PiS secured two terms under the United Right configuration, winning the most votes as an independent committee but not enough to form a government on its own. After a power shift in Poland, talk of leadership changes within PiS intensified. Journalists and publicists traded sensational reports about internal power struggles, and politicians from the ruling coalition proclaimed another supposed end for PiS.
Within PiS, some voices suggested a generational shift. Jarosław Kaczyński himself indicated at the 2021 party congress that his tenure might be the last, hinting at a handover in 2025. Yet a recent interview with the weekly Sieci cast doubt on that outlook, with Kaczyński signaling that he would seek leadership again in 2025.
In his remarks, Kaczyński spoke of strength and a political plan, insisting that he would not abandon the party or the broader coalition during a difficult period facing a determined opponent. He affirmed a commitment to stay and continue the fight, according to his conversation with editors Jacek and Michał Karnowski. The interview is featured in the latest Sieci Weekly edition.

“The greatest successes in the history of the right wing in Poland”
In response to questions on leadership and direction, Adam Andruszkiewicz, PiS MP and former Foreign Minister in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, offered his perspective on the discussion surrounding the party’s future. He described Kaczyński as the architect of Law and Justice and the United Right, crediting him with achievements that he believes represent the pinnacle of success for Poland’s right-leaning political spectrum. He highlighted a historic triple victory as a remarkable milestone never before achieved by the Polish right wing.
The interviewee added that the leader’s continued vitality and energy bolster confidence in the right-wing project and confirmed PiS’s support for Kaczyński’s ongoing leadership. He stressed unity within the party and the broader coalition as a core principle during this period.
Questions linger about whether the current statements will quiet media chatter about “leadership wars” or an impending split within the United Right. Andruszkiewicz dismissed such coverage as media fabrication and wishful thinking from observers who favor a split in favor of opposition rivals. He asserted that the leadership remains united as long as Kaczyński can fulfill the role, describing broad consensus across the right-wing camp.

“Tusk can put on a good face in a bad match”
Observing Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s public posture, commentators wonder whether the recent remarks may be seen as good optics in a difficult political contest. The assessment from PiS analysts is that Tusk often says one thing while considering another, a pattern they say reflects the underlying political dynamics. The party argues that Tusk’s platform did not translate into victory for his coalition in the most recent elections. The view within PiS is that the media’s narrative about a revitalized Third Way and a strengthened opposition does not align with the actual outcome.
According to Andruszkiewicz, the defeat of Tusk’s parliamentary coalition is clear, and contemporary commentary that praises the opposition’s supposed resurgence should be weighed against the electoral results. He suggested that Tusk’s current posture aims to present strength while those who watch strategically know the real conditions on the ground. He summarized the situation as one where the right remains compact, and the objective is to preserve unity rather than permit fragmentation into competing factions.
