The Valencia Community is entering the second and final phase of reversing the Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV) station concessions, a process that will unfold over the coming weekend with several operational challenges still unresolved. Mobile units in Calp, Santa Pola, and El Campello remain temporarily unavailable, with no fixed date for reopening. The publicly traded firm responsible for taking over management will need to liquidate existing facilities before establishing permanent operations or constructing new sites. Stations in Alicante and Elche will stay closed this Saturday, with operations slated to resume under the Generalitat umbrella on Monday.

The Ministry of Economy, acting through the Valencian ITV Association (Sitval), completed the first reinstatement phase last week by transferring Alcoy, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Villena, Redován, and Orihuela stations to public ownership, alongside certain mobile units. Elda, Novelda, and Pilar de la Horadada facilities were also included in this phase. The next step targets Alicante and Elche, whose concession contracts expired yesterday, triggering the ongoing transition.

Sitval encountered a hurdle when the Calp, Santa Pola, and El Campello mobile units remained owned by concessionaires, delaying the transfer agreement. As a result, new dependencies will need to be activated through a process that currently has no firm deadline.

Josep Antoni Albert, the director of the publicly traded company, stated that efforts would focus on restoring service as quickly as possible, starting with Santa Pola and El Campello. In Calp, the City Council has offered new land, and authorities are working to secure occupancy swiftly. The situation underscores the broader challenge of coordinating between public administration and private concession holders during this transitional period.

Meanwhile, El Campello’s mayor, Juanjo Berenguer, criticized the Generalitat for the temporary disruption in service delivery, prompting a response from Albert. He indicated that limited collaboration had been found with the City Council but stressed the need for more cooperation to expedite solutions in Santa Pola and Calp. The overarching objective remains to repair all stations, though the timetable will hinge on agreements between the involved parties.

ITV public administration will begin with service-free El Campello, Santa Pola, and Calp

Regarding Alicante and Elche, those stations will stay closed this Saturday so that Ministry of Economy personnel can verify correct operations and begin a temporary reception phase. The reopening to the public is planned for Monday under the public administration framework.

Albert noted that the stations transferred last week are already functioning normally. In the initial days, the inspection cadence was deliberately spaced to anticipate and manage potential issues that could arise during the transition.
