The Valencia regional administration is proceeding with the second and final installment of the Valencia Community Vehicle Inspection network return to normal operations, a process that will continue this weekend. Several mobile ITV units in Calp, Santa Pola, and El Campello remain temporarily unavailable, with no fixed date yet set for their reopening. The company publicly owned to manage these services plans to liquidate existing operations before establishing permanent facilities, but the plan to build new sites will move forward once current units are resolved. Stations in Alicante and Elche will stay closed this Saturday, with a return to service under the Generalitat umbrella anticipated for Monday. The aim is to ensure a smooth transition while preserving safety and inspection standards across the region. Sitval, the Valencian ITV association, has emphasized that the reinstatement process is being carried out in phases to safeguard continuity of service and compliance with regulatory requirements across all centers.
The initial phase of the reinstatement, conducted last week, saw the transfer of several stations into public ownership, including Alcoy, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Villena, Redován, and Orihuela, alongside some mobile units. Elda, Novelda, and Pilar de la Horadada units followed in the same phase. The current plan targets Alicante and Elche next, given that their concession contracts had expired shortly before the start of this phase. The move reflects a broader strategy to consolidate ITV services under public administration, improving oversight and long term planning for vehicle inspections across the province.
However, Sitval encountered a challenge when the Calp, Santa Pola, and El Campello mobile units—previously owned by private concessionaires—could not be transferred without an agreement on terms of transfer. This complication means that new dependencies will need to be activated, a process that does not yet have a defined deadline. The situation underscores the complexities involved when shifting from private concession management to public ownership and the need for coordinated action among all parties to guarantee continuous service to motorists.
Josep Antoni Albert, the director of the publicly traded holding responsible for ITV services, stated that efforts would be made to restore full service as quickly as possible. He noted that Santa Pola and El Campello would remain unavailable in the short term, while Calp would see rapid progress thanks to a land offer from the City Council and a plan to occupy it promptly. The remarks reflect a practical approach to maintaining essential inspections while awaiting the completion of the transfer and site development processes.
In the midst of these negotiations, El Campello’s mayor, Juanjo Berenguer, criticized the Generalitat for the temporary disruption in service. He argued that cooperation had been limited, and that the city needed more constructive support to accelerate resolutions in Santa Pola and Calp. Albert responded by highlighting some progress and stressing the need for ongoing collaboration to finalize all issues and achieve a reliable solution for every station. The tone of the discussions points to a shared objective: complete restoration of all ITV facilities with minimal disruption to users.
ITV public administration begins with service-free El Campello, Santa Pola, and Calp
Regarding the stations in Alicante and Elche, the objective remains to keep them closed this Saturday so the Ministry of Economy can staff and audit operations, ensuring every control and procedure meets current standards before a temporary reception phase begins. The expectation is that these facilities will reopen to the public on Monday once the verification process is completed and the service transition is validated. Albert noted that the stations acquired in the previous week are functioning normally and that early inspections were intentionally paced to anticipate any unexpected issues that could arise during the adjustment period. This measured approach aims to maintain rigorous quality control while expanding access to inspections as soon as feasible.
