Masymas, the supermarket chain run by Pedreguer-based Juan Fornés Fornés SA, has announced a large-scale summer recruitment drive for 2022, according to the company. The initiative aims to bring in about 250 new associates to bolster the team as the season picks up pace, with plans outlined by the company on a Tuesday update.

The plan targets new hires joining from mid-June when operations ramp up. Training will be provided to address specific needs, and the recruitment drive will continue through the end of August, with some roles extending into mid-September.

Candidate criteria emphasize a positive attitude, strong teamwork, good interpersonal skills, and a solid business mindset. Experience is not required as the company emphasizes training, but prior experience will be welcomed where relevant. Roles across various sections of the stores, such as cashier, stock management, and general staff, are expected to be filled by the seasonal staff augmentation.

Ultimately, the recruitment effort seeks to support a significant influx of customers at Masymas’ facilities across the Valencian Community and the Murcia region, including the Pedreguer area, aligning with the company’s strategy to strengthen frontline operations during peak tourist periods.

Masymas Supermarkets opens its online store

There are Masymas markets totaling around 120 locations across the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. The chain employed about 2,593 people at the close of 2021.

Last year, Masymas reported a turnover of 321.2 million euros, reflecting a 3.8 percent decline from 2020 when broader sector activity rose due to shifts in consumption patterns toward households from hospitality. Even so, Masymas performance remained about 5.8 percent above pre-pandemic levels in 2021.

Juan Fornés Fornés creates Masymas Basic banner to differentiate smaller supermarkets

In the previous year the group invested around 10 million euros to open two new stores and refurbish four more locations in El Verger (Alicante) and Xeraco (Valencia). With these enhancements, the Pedreguer-based network now counts 120 supermarkets, including 36 Masymas Basic outlets, a banner launched in October last year to distinguish smaller formats. A notable difference is the network’s segmentation, ranging from stores around 400 square meters to about 1,200 square meters, reflecting the new model that adds more sections, including ready-to-eat and prepared products, to better serve diverse shopper needs.
