Masymas and Mercalicante formalized a collaborative agreement to provide internship opportunities for students enrolled in food cluster programs at the chain’s supermarkets. The arrangement enables practical application of classroom learning in specialties such as butcher work, seafood handling, grocery operations, delicatessen, and bakery, with the signing taking place at Masymas headquarters in Pedreguer.
Dolores Mejía, general manager of Mercalicante, and José Juan Fornés, general manager of Masymas, participated in the ceremony. Mercalicante offers training courses focused on specialty skills in the agri-food sector within a modern training facility, including dedicated spaces for cutting and processing of food products, along with changing rooms and an integrated audiovisual setup to support hands-on learning.
The initiative is designed to enhance the employability of Mercalicante students by increasing their chances of securing a position within the Masymas supermarket network after completing the program. Upon course completion, Mercalicante will share participant curricula with Masymas, which will then review the profiles through Masymas’ internal talent selection and hiring processes.
The Mercalicante managing director expressed appreciation for Masymas’s collaboration, noting that the program will practically strengthen the training and specialization of future food industry workers. The collaboration supports greater sector competitiveness. The parties emphasize that theoretical knowledge must be complemented by real-world application in partner companies, ensuring students gain essential hands-on experience and the customer-service mindset vital to the food sector. In summary, education paired with professional practice emerges as a key driver of employability, providing a pathway to employment and improved livelihoods for individuals involved in these trades.
