Normal operation describes the Alcoy, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Villena, Redován and Orihuela Technical Vehicle Inspection stations after a government shift driven by the Ministry of Economy. The service ran smoothly this Monday, with no queues, and the Consell, which had scheduled appointments to prevent issues, decided to keep the usual pace for the week. Meanwhile, the regional department is preparing the second and final phase of the transition, which will affect the Alicante and Elche stations next Monday.

Last Friday, half of the community’s stations completed their contracts to hand over management to the Valencian ITV Society Sitval, a public company. In Alicante province, Alcoy, Benidorm, Torrevieja and Villena stations remained closed on Saturday while Ivace technicians checked operations in person to ensure everything was in order. Public administration officially resumed on Monday as part of the normalization process following the handover.

In Redován and Orihuela, the Ministry of Economy began leasing warehouses and equipment, since these assets had previously belonged to concessionaires. The mobile units in Elda, Novelda and Pilar de la Horadada, which are linked to the same companies, faced the same arrangements. In these cases, service continued without disruption, as the stations were not closed on Saturday.

A Sitval chairman emphasizes that the transition ran without incident and that after weeks of limited cooperation, many companies are now following the established rules, though a few exceptions remain. He notes that facilities and supplies were left as requested, and given how events have unfolded, appointments paused in the early days facing potential problems will resume their normal cadence this week. He adds that if the schedule can return to stability by Wednesday, it will beat Thursday; those are the words of Sitval’s leader.

Work continues on the second phase of the return, which will affect the Alicante and Elche stations. Contracts expire next Friday, and as with the first phase, the Saturday closure will occur with public administration restarting Monday, March 6.

A seven-year lease will preserve ITV service in Vega Baja

Valencia Community ITV Association of Concessionaires president Ricardo Pérez has voiced concerns about the official handover of newly built stations to the Ministry. He states that no formal reception or bequest of facilities has occurred, creating an abnormal situation. As a result, he personally signed a written exception to clarify that ownership and responsibility for the Villena station are transferred away from him because management is no longer theirs.

Nevertheless, Sitval’s leadership insists that the state-owned company is fully compliant with the established protocol and that all pending matters will be resolved in the coming weeks.

Economy is organizing 470 workers in the province to align with the integration process. By next week, all 1,200 workers will have transitioned, with 470 positioned at community stations in Alicante. Initially, working and salary conditions remain the same, but adjustments will occur gradually to fit the public sector framework. Minister Rafa Climent acknowledged comments from concessionaires in recent months and expressed satisfaction with the smooth execution of the first part of the transition. Critics who warned of chaos have not found the reality to match their predictions; the main concern remains the financial arrangements tied to service provision, but the operational delivery has proven solid.
