The Minister of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, Nuria Montes, announced that the Generalitat approved an agreement to equalize salaries for ITV workers in the Valencian Community. More than 300 of Sitval’s approximately 1,100 employees will benefit immediately. These workers, primarily from Alicante, currently earn about 40 percent less than colleagues in similar roles elsewhere. The measure addresses long standing pay gaps across ITV stations and aims to bring consistency to compensation for the same duties across the network.

The agreement takes effect immediately and is retroactive to June 1. Verification of eligibility was possible after the necessary documents were submitted to the General Advocacy of the Generalitat, the Autonomous Secretariat of Finance, and the General Directorate of Public Services and had their approval confirmed by these departments. This administrative step ensured the measure could be implemented without further delay.

The move reverses a pattern of privatization associated with ITV services, aligning employees across different concessionaires who operated the service until last February under the umbrella of the new public company Sitval. Previously, workers performing the same tasks faced different working conditions depending on which concessionaire they came from. The disparities were most pronounced among workers in Alicante, who faced the lowest average wages.

Currently, the regional management had held back from implementing salary equalization due to concerns about procedural requirements. This hesitation raised tensions with unions, which threatened strikes as a response to the stalemate.

However, the ministry acted swiftly, streamlining the process for submitting the required documentation. In time, the agreement was able to come into force, preventing disruption in ITV services and ensuring a more uniform standard of pay for those performing comparable roles across the network.

Nuria Montes stated clearly that the administration worked within tight deadlines to resolve a difficult situation left by the prior management of the ITV Public Company. She emphasized that the pay differentials created significant inequities among employees at different ITV stations, undermining morale and fairness across the workforce.

The Sitval councilor and chair welcomed the development, noting that the Generalitat’s new government has shown sensitivity to the difficulties faced by ITV staff following the public reorganization initiated by the previous government, an action that benefited many people. The council member asserted that this is a step toward ensuring that citizens have access to a reliable and essential service across the Valencian Community.
