With every new update, fresh bosses appear in Genshin Impact, and version 4.4 is no exception. This guide explains the Suanni Hermit: where to locate the monster, how to defeat it, and the rewards players can claim after the battle.

Who is Suanni the Hermit?

Centuries ago, Suanni were regarded as divine beasts on par with legendary adepts. They dwelled in Chenyu Valley and lived free from material concerns. In modern times, their descendants have become formidable foes. The hermit is one such descendant, a boss that challenges players in the story mode of Genshin Impact.

How to find Suanni Hermit in Genshin Impact

The Suanni Hermit resides in Chenyu Valley, and the arena location is marked on the map. The battlefield lies underground, demanding careful navigation.

You can travel to the hermit’s arena using the golden carp. It provides rapid transit across long distances. After activating the Archon statue, the fast travel method becomes available for quick repositioning.

Who should join the team to confront the Suanni Hermit?

The boss wields Anemo and Hydro elements, which makes characters aligned with these elements less effective in this fight. A balanced team built around Pyro, Electro, or Cryo units tends to perform better, with additional teammates chosen to strengthen the main attacker or amplify elemental reactions. For instance, Anemo adept characters can trigger Dispel reactions to increase elemental damage output.

Battle teams

A squad focused on Cryo damage and the melt reaction:

  • Main Offense Cryo Hero: Ayaka, Rosaria, Ganyu or Raiden Shogun;
  • Cryo character for elemental resonance and extra damage: Shenhe, Freminet, Kaeya or Layla;
  • Pyro Hero for the melting reaction: Xiangling, Toma or Amber;
  • Support/Healer: QiQi, Mika, Diona, Bennett, Chevreuse, Barbara, Genie, Shinobu or Xingqiu.

Battle team centered on Pyro damage:

  • Main Offensive Pyro Hero: Diluc, Klee, Liyue characters like Lini or Eimiya;
  • Pyro support for resonance and extra damage: Amber, Dehya, Xiangling or Toma;
  • Anemo support for Dispel reactions: Kaedehara Kazuha, Sucrose, Linette, Sayu, Faruzan or Heizou;
  • Healer/Support: Bennett, Chevreuse, Shinobu, Xingqiu, Yao Yao, Genie, Barbara, Mika, Diona or QiQi.

A team built around Electro damage:

  • Main Electro Attacker: Keqing, Raiden Shogun, Saino or Yae Miko;
  • Electro support for resonance and extra damage: Fischl, Sara;
  • Hydro ally for reactions: Xingqiu, Nilou, Nevilette, Mona or Kandakia;
  • Healer/Support: Dori, Shinobu, QiQi, Mika, Diona, Bennett, Chevreuse, Barbara, Genie or Xingqiu.

Teams focusing on Cryo often work well because Cryo can freeze the boss during water absorption, allowing powerful elemental reactions to land. The guide also explains why ranged units like catalysts or bows excel, and why swords or spears require more movement and dodging.

Preparing for battle

Beyond strong heroes, bring consumables that boost the team’s effectiveness in combat.

Potions to increase damage:

  • Frost Oil — raises Cryo damage by 25% for 300 seconds;
  • Whirlpool Oil — raises Hydro damage by 25% for 300 seconds;
  • Flame Oil — raises Pyro damage by 25% for 300 seconds;
  • Thunder Oil — raises Electro damage by 25% for 300 seconds.

Other buffs:

  • Adept’s Temptation — increases attack power and critical damage for 300 seconds;
  • Lotus Cookies — strengthens defense for 300 seconds;
  • Mountain Growth — increases critical hit chance for 300 seconds.

Tactics of battles with Suanni the hermit

Understanding the boss’s moves is essential for reducing damage and securing victory. Core strategies include:

  • Water absorption: when the boss drains water, strike with Cryo to freeze it and trigger related ice reactions. Cryo pairs well with Pyro, Electro, and Hydro.
  • Spontaneous explosions: these are dodgeable melee bursts; maintain distance and strike from afar.
  • Air spheres: target them with Hydro, Electro, Cryo, or Pyro. Destroying all three spheres quickly freezes the hermit and creates a window for attack. If not destroyed in time, the spheres collapse and pull heroes in.
  • Tail hits: the hermit spins and raises its tail. Move to the side to dodge; a water wave may follow the main strike and deal damage.
  • Attacks from above: occasional airborne bursts include Anemo Spheres or Blades. Sidestep to avoid.

In practice, Cryo attacks during water absorption and destroying Anemo spheres with elemental reactions can immobilize the hermit. A ranged approach with a catalyst or bow is recommended for sustained damage. Melee fighters should dodge laterally, sprint, and retreat as needed. Restoration of health is advised when necessary.
