How to Join the Pill Study Event

The Pill Study seasonal event in Genshin Impact invites players to test four challenges, spread across three phases. This guide breaks down how to maximize points in each stage and secure the rewards you want.

Getting Into the Pill Study Event

An alchemist named Hajanage appears near Sumeru, working with powerful “remelting pills.” Players can lend a hand by completing a series of tasks and observing the melting effects in action.

How to access the event:

  1. Reach adventure rank 20.
  2. Unlock the Sumeru region.

After meeting these requirements, open the event menu and select the task area. A short quest is required before the first test begins.

Travel quickly to Gandh’s ramp and speak with Hajanad at the teleporter. After finishing the dialogue, the quest concludes, granting rewards and unlocking the event challenges.

Rewards will be earned by completing the tasks and advancing through the stages.

Event Rules: Using the Melter and Gaining Extra Damage

Each test features three rounds. Players can pick from available heroes or trial heroes. Points are awarded for defeating continually spawned enemies, and higher scores increase the likelihood of earning all rewards.

Approximately every 15 seconds, players may activate the melter to trigger one or more effects. Each round includes unique effects, so choosing the right heroes before the fight starts is important.

Activating the melter reduces its cooldown time by defeating enemies in the arena.

How to Run the “Temperature Contrast Decoction” Test: Which Heroes Should You Use?

Choosing the multipliers advisable

If you have upgraded characters in addition to trial heroes, set the multiplier to x2. This speeds up point accumulation in each round.

First round — Refining Effects:

  • Cold water decoction: The active character gains a 110% Hydro damage bonus.
  • Frosty decoction: The active character gains a 110% Cryo damage bonus.
  • Drink of Crack: When the active character triggers a freeze on an enemy, that enemy’s defense drops by 25%.
  • Potion of brittleness: Damage dealt to frozen enemies increases by 50%.

Who should you bring?

Melting effects boost Cryo and Hydro damage, so it makes sense to include characters aligned with those elements. The game allows multiple test heroes in the squad, which is handy if a player lacks fully upgraded characters:

  1. Tartaglia (trial).
  2. Gan Yu (trial).
  3. Eola (if available).
  4. Ye Lan (if available). Sangonomiya Kokomi is also suitable.

Additionally, you may bring one Geo-element character to help craft crystals and provide a shield for protection.

Second round — Refining Effects:

  • Cold water decoction: 110% Hydro damage bonus.
  • Burning brew: 110% Pyro damage bonus.
  • Perspiration drink: A shock wave triggered by vapor or melt reactions can hit nearby enemies, with a cooldown of about 5 seconds.
  • Attack Potion: All party members have a 35% higher critical hit chance.

Which heroes to use?

Hydro and Pyro elements are particularly useful in this round. If such characters aren’t available, trial versions serve as good substitutes. A recommended squad includes:

  1. Tartaglia (trial).
  2. Hu Tao (trial).
  3. Ye Lan (if available).
  4. Dilyuk (if available).

When Perspiration Drink is active, alternate Hydro and Pyro elemental abilities to rapidly clear enemies and rack up points.

Third round — Refining Effects:

  • Burning brew: 110% Pyro damage bonus.
  • Frosty decoction: 110% Cryo damage bonus.
  • Perspiration drink: Vapor or melt reactions emit a shock wave dealing damage to nearby foes, about every 5 seconds.
  • Attack Potion: 35% increased critical hits for all party members.

Who should you use?

This round mirrors the previous one, with Pyro and Cryo heroes favored. A practical squad might include:

  1. Gan Yu (trial).
  2. Hu Tao (trial).
  3. Eola (if available).
  4. Dilyuk (if available).

As in the prior battle, switching between different element types and using elemental skills is key to activating perspiration effects.

With the x2 multiplier, a player can expect to reach at least 5,000 points across all three rounds, unlocking all challenge rewards.

Awards include rewards at various score thresholds, such as Source Stones, Mora, and Experience items.

How to Complete the Thunder Pill Trial

First round — In this trial, melting effects boost physical and Electro damage. Pair these with Cryo characters to trigger Superconduct and Overload, which helps restore elemental energy quickly.

Which heroes to use?

  1. Eola (trial).
  2. Raiden (trial).
  3. Eloy or Kaya (trial).
  4. Razor (trial).

As the round begins, there are usually no early problems. If time is tight, elite enemies may appear near the end; use the melter for an Electro bonus and activate Raiden and Razor’s abilities. When Hardness Brew is active, favor Eola’s normal or charged attacks.

Second round — The squad should again include multiple Electro heroes, plus a trial Pyro hero and an upgraded character of the same element if possible.

Which heroes to use?

  1. Klee (trial).
  2. Ke Qing (trial).
  3. Dilyuk (if available).
  4. Raiden (if available).

In this fight, Crio-element foes are plentiful. Destroy them with Pyro attacks and time the melting effects to stay ahead.

Third round — The final round remains challenging even with a standard multiplier and trial heroes. To extend character longevity, consider using Geo-based support to craft crystals and shield allies.

Which heroes to use?

  1. Ke Qing (trial).
  2. Ayato (trial).
  3. Any Geo character.
  4. Ye Lan (if available).

Crystals should be created as often as possible to avoid losing teammates before the round ends.

Awards mirror the earlier section with Score thresholds for Stones, Mora, and Experience items.
