How to start the Archon quest “The Impending Catastrophe”
Several prerequisites must be met:
- Reach adventure rank 40.
- Unlock the Fontaine region.
- Complete the Archons’ task “Prelude of White Roses and Black Waves.”
- Complete the Archon mission ‘Like Light Rain Without Reason’.
- Complete the Archon mission ‘To the Shining of the Stars in the Deep’, which requires gathering all clues and evidence.
The quest triggers automatically after finishing the preceding task. Players simply follow the marker, which can be activated in the task log (key “J” on PC).
In the darkness of the deep
By the end of the prior quest, it was suggested that Childe might have escaped, though the truth remains unresolved:
- First inspect the fortress’s middle level, where Bavillier will summon you. At first, he offers to perform the “Sacred Call of the Seven,” but he soon starts speaking. No proof is presented, yet the objective updates.
- On the same floor, proceed to the dining room where several boys stand.
- The final step involves the three men on the floor above.
After speaking with a companion, a long cutscene plays, and then the player returns to the barracks.

The truth hidden in the shadows. What are the correct answers to Risley’s questions?
Players follow to the fortress production site and speak with Lini. Documentation on the table, the bed, and the disguised Lucas behind large wooden boxes are examined.
Immediately after this, Paimon discovers a note under the stairs. Following another long video, Lini enters the office and must be pursued.
In a conversation with Risley, three questions must be answered. If sufficient clues and evidence were gathered in the previous quest, the answers come easily.
First question:
- What happens if a secret rule is broken on the production floor? – “Strange meat in free food”;
- Who will know that work has continued without a break? – “Observing Sijwin”;
- Under what conditions does strange flesh appear? – “Desert Hospital”;
- Why does foreign flesh appear this way? – “Research into the characteristics of melusina.”
Second question:
- What happens if a secret pankration rule is broken? – “A package containing a strange liquid the color of blood”;
- Who sent a package with the strange blood-colored liquid? – “Sponsor of the pankration tournament” (as Collins described);
- Why does the strange blood-colored liquid look like that? — “Internal reports ‘Fonta’”
- Why only those who bought tickets for both fighters’ victories will receive the package? – “Dissatisfaction with the Duke.”
It doesn’t proceed to the third question, as Lini decides to assault Risley. At that moment the head nurse appears and neutralizes him.
After the video, the task is updated. First, Risley is visited to eavesdrop on a conversation with Clorinda, then Lini is spoken to. Return to the infirmary to take control of Freminet.
Activate the first mechanism—the platform lowers. Head to the second mechanism to rotate the platform to the right and reveal a passage to the stairs.
There are two levers at the top. The first raises the platform, the second rotates it. It is essential to interact with the second mechanism first to spin the elevator, and only then raise it.
Dive into the water and swim toward a dead end. A video begins here, and Freminet begins losing health. There is no time to land; wait for the character to faint.

The Keepers of Secrets and the Forbidden Zone
On the middle level, enter Risley’s office where he awaits with his subordinates on the second floor. He explains his decision not to obstruct Fatui’s investigation, but he avoids answering the final question. Instead, the Duke reveals something.
Follow him and stand on the lift plate to reach the “forbidden zone.” The question about the device’s arrow reads “Water Pressure.” A lengthy account from the Duke follows, and the task is completed.

In the face of disaster
At the start of this quest, players check in with friends at the infirmary and then visit the canteen. When the main character and Paimon go to bed, strange noises are heard. Laverun and Custeau report that the Duke ordered the evacuation of all prisoners—an incident occurred on a lower floor.
Proceed along the middle level to the Duke’s office. The stairs to the lower floors are opened. Activate the lifting device and watch the engine video.
The rising water pressure tears the massive lid apart while a guard tries to freeze it, yet the flood persists. A brief exchange with Harlequin ensues, after which Neuvillet seals the airlock again to halt the tsunami.
Afterward, players may speak with Harlequin and the Hydro Archon, then meet the judge to complete the quest and earn the achievement “Remnant from a bygone era.”
Completing the task grants two additional achievements, “Arrival of the Gulf” and “Bottomless Secrets of the Deep Waters.”

Short silence
This final leg requires returning to the fortress, speaking with friends to learn their future, then heading to the barracks to sleep and close the quest line. The achievement “Imminent Disaster” is awarded in the Wonders of the World section.
