Season 2023/24 from ADDA Simfònica returns with a thoughtfully curated program built around intense passions expressed through music. The artistic team has focused on deep emotional engagement and a consistent, immersive listening experience. The season offers 22 concerts from September to May, including 12 performances by the ADDA fixed orchestra and a variety of itineraries featuring world class ensembles and renowned soloists for live audiences across diverse venues.

The new programming centers on a wide range of great passions. Highlights include a 300th anniversary tribute, the St. John Passion with guest Italian conductor Ruben Jais, and explorations of masterworks associated with Berio and Penderecki in collaboration with large orchestras. The lineup brings in esteemed conductors, such as Antonio Pappano and John Elliott Gardiner, alongside soloists like Pinchas Zukerman and Janine Jansen, and celebrates the Coro Orfeón Donostiarra with performances from London to Krakow and beyond. The season also features enduring classics from the classical repertoire, a Shostakovich Leningrad Symphony, Beethoven’s Ninth, and a full staged opera experience that complements the festival’s other offerings.

This year, the artistic director has designed four distinct experiences for audiences. The season opens in September with a program titled Death and Metamorphosis, paired with mezzo-soprano Stefanie Iranyi and closes in May with a new dawn featuring soprano Irene Theorin. In October, the London Symphony Orchestra will perform Zarathustra with pianist Alice Sara Ott and manager Antonio Pappano. November brings ADDA Simfònica under the baton of Pierre Bleuse with a Strauss concert joined by violinist Jesus Queen; January will feature the Dresden Philharmonic presenting a life of a hero with pianist Francesco Piedmontese and manager Pablo Gonzalez.

New block programming and a focus on cinematic collaboration also enrich the season. A symphonic cinema project brings a filmmaker into the concert hall for a live score experience. Lucas van Woerkum guides the audience through a cinematic journey as Mahler’s echoes accompany a performance featuring actor Greg Wise. The event explores synchronized film and live orchestra, with Stravinsky’s Firebird within a cinema context.

Wake up your inner voice is a highlighted trip offered by ADDA Symphonic, blending sound with choral works. December brings a performance with the Orfeón Donostiarra, while February features Amici Music Choir and a Mahler deconstruction with London Sounds. March closes with a Passion performed by the Milano Baroque Chorus.

The fourth block centers on twelve concerts from the ADDA Simfònica program. The ensemble is praised for its commitment to engaging a broad audience across Spain, and the season includes Daphnis and Chloe with violinist Fumiaki Miura in January, Beethoven’s Hero with the Vibration Trio in April, and Bohemia with cellist Senja Rummukainen and manager Thomas Brauner in May, followed by a finale with Irene Theorin.

The total budget for the 2023/24 symphonic season is 680,000 euros. The previous season ran at 860,000 euros, though there were two cancellations due to the pandemic.

On the ADDA stage, preparations for La Bohème continue, with a fully staged Puccini production scheduled to close the season on June 7, 9, and 11. The staging involves close collaboration between Josep Vicente and the culture committee, who have overseen the production planning in the weeks leading up to performances.

Attention to young people

Navarrese officials underline the season’s accessibility, noting multiple subscription options that suit different appetites for live music. Full subscriptions cover all 22 concerts, while partial options include 11 concerts. A youth subscription remains available for ages 14 to 30, starting at 90 euros, with concerts for younger listeners at 9 euros when applicable.

Dates for tickets and subscriptions

Subscription renewals for full tickets run from May 23 to June 15, with partial renewals from June 26 to July 6. New subscriptions are released from July 10 to July 28, and individual tickets go on sale August 1. Discounts of up to 30 percent apply for young people and seniors, making the season more affordable for a wide audience.
