Not everyone earns a Grammy nomination. Yet the ADDA Simfònica director, Josep Vicent, celebrated with a nomination in the Best Major Jazz Ensemble Album category. Albums that account for 75% of the playing time of jazz ensembles’ new recordings can be entered on an album-by-album basis. Rhythm. Chick Corea Symphony Tribute recorded at the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium.
Josep Vicent: “A symphonic project with Chick Corea could be a big success”
In addition, this designation brings dual nominations for the Latin Grammys to be held in Seville. The categories include Best Instrumental Album and Best Arrangement. The album features Emilio Solla as arranger.
Josep Vicent, director of ADDA Simfònica, met with the media earlier this week alongside his deputy for culture, Juan de Dios Navarro. He spoke of the joy and excitement of a major Grammy nomination, while noting that he does not expect to win. For Vicent, being listed in the jazz category alongside renowned figures such as Quincy Jones, Miles Davis, and The Count Basie Orchestra represents a meaningful recognition, and he admires them professionally as a source of inspiration.
Rhythm. Chick Corea Symphony Tribute presents a dozen Chick Corea compositions. In July 2021, Vicent conducted the ADDA orchestra for this tribute, with Emilio Solla handling the arrangements. The project features a lineup that includes the pianist Vicent, Jorge Roeder on double bass, Ferenc Nemeth on drums, and collaborations with Cuban star Paquito d’Rivera, Cádiz-born Antonio Lizana, and Valencian David Pastor.

Vicent described the achievement as a turning point for the symphonic project. He noted that the city now possesses its own musical brand, earning recognition worldwide. He spoke with pride as a musician and as a native of Alicante, describing the project as an improbable dream realized for multiple generations.
Chick Corea’s Legacy
Following applause from ADDA Simfònica members, Vicent shared two emotional messages received after the nomination. One came from Warner Music Classics, and the other from Chick Corea’s widow, Gayle Moran. The Warner message celebrated the team’s happiness, while Moran’s message conveyed a lasting sense of memory and tribute to Corea years after his passing.
Vicent emphasized that Corea represented a model of respect for diversity and coexistence. He described Corea as an artist capable of engaging with Mozart, drawing on Spanish folk traditions and American jazz, and exploring future technologies with the Elektric Band. This ethos inspired Vicent, who often says he is a bit of a quirky classical musician. The team confirmed plans for new albums with Warner after a productive meeting with the project’s producer.
“ADDA and the orchestra have been a catalyst for society, elevating us”
Culture Deputy Juan de Dios Navarro spoke during the event, expressing joy for the city, the Valencian Community, and Spain. He conveyed congratulations from Toni Pérez, president of the Alicante Provincial Council, and Carlos Mazón, president of the Generalitat. The Latin Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on a date in Seville, with the main gala in Los Angeles on February 4, while the Latin category remains the immediate focus in Seville on November 16.
