Apple has officially confirmed that it will support the iPhone 15 with updates for at least five years from the start of sales. This is less than some Android manufacturers, reports Android Authority portal.
It was noted that Apple had not previously stated how long it would support its devices. The company has now set a five-year minimum support period for iPhones, which is shorter than other manufacturers. For example, the latest gadgets from Samsung and Google come with up to seven years of guaranteed support, including security patches and new versions of Android. However, this is much longer than the support period of the vast majority of Android smartphones, which are updated for an average of two to three years.
Throughout the iPhone’s history, Apple has released updates for some models, even after six years or more. Therefore, it is possible for some devices to continue receiving updates after the minimum support period.
This decision follows the introduction of the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act, which requires companies that manufacture, import or distribute internet-enabled devices in the UK to comply with certain security requirements. One of these rules is to specify the support period during which security updates will be provided.
