Digital Foundry (DF) experts released a detailed analysis of the second Grand Auto VI trailer, examining the technical aspects of the graphics and technology used in the game. Video DF appeared on Youtube channel.
Shortly after the release of the trailer, Rockstar Games developers confirmed that the video was completely saved to PlayStation 5 and consisted of game staff and Kitszen. DF experts probably evaluated the video resolution of the 2560×1152 pixels using scaling technology, probably FSR 1.
Despite the high quality, the trailer shows some visual roughness, including the works of reflections, defective softening and hair formation properties. The DF shows that the final quality of the graphics in a real game may be different from those shown in the trailer.
GTA VI probably uses global lighting with the expectation of each pixel. Technology provides realistic transmission of both direct and multiple light. Experts, light interaction with the environment naturally interacted with the evening lighting of the scenes attracted special attention.
The use of RT improvements in the game also affected the DF. In particular, a correct light transmission was recorded on transparent surfaces such as glass, mirrors and cars. In some scenes, even the dynamic objects that are rare in the game industry are taken into consideration.
To optimize productivity, Rockstar combined RT-Reflection (SSR). At the same time, the game protects the maps of traditional shadows, not RT-tenni, which reduces the burden in the graph system without significant visual quality.
One of the most advanced technical aspects was the hairstyle. DF said that Lucia’s hair looks natural and dynamic thanks to the simulation technology of individual yarns. Analysts also drew attention to the highly realism of hair styles, from short haircuts to curls.
In addition, the game uses the dynamic visualization of the skin and transmits the effects of natural refraction of sweat and light. The characters’ clothes move independently of the body and provide a more convincing effect of the tissue.
DF experts suggest that the game will work on 30 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X/S consoles. A higher information load from RTGI and RT-Extraction makes a more smooth mode in 60 frames per second.
Experts also say that GTA VI has received a lot of demand for portable systems such as Nintendo Switch 2, Steam Deck and Rog Allly, so support should not be expected.
The release of the Grand Theft Auto VI is planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X/S consoles on May 26, 2026.
