The Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium (ADDA) welcomed the second edition of the Real Alicante Regatta Club Sports Gala this Friday, where sailing, rowing, canoeing and fishing enthusiasts gathered for the grand annual celebration. The event showcased the season’s achievements and honored the most outstanding athletes with trophies and recognitions across maritime disciplines.
As host, Miguel Lopez Barbero, president of RCR Alicante, greeted participants, athletes, partners, officials and fans. He was joined by several board members representing different sports committees, including rowing’s Javier López Requena and Ricardo Nutz, dinghy sailing’s Antonio Ramón-Borja, cruisers’ José María Oliván and Pascual Martínez, and a fleet captain who led the day’s proceedings. Real Club de Regatas Alicante remained actively involved in the city throughout the recently concluded year, 2023. It served as the departure port for the Ocean Race, hosted the Viva México team, and became the home base for the 420 World Championships and the Spanish Sea Rowing Championships. The combined TabarcaVela-Diputación de Alicante Alicante City & Beach Trophy stood out as one of the premier races in the national cruising calendar, fully dedicated to social and sporting activities such as the Women’s League final and the 57th Sailing Week. Special Rewards and Recognitions
The roster of awards acknowledged achievements on national and international stages. The World and Spanish J80 Mixed Champion boat Dorsia Covirán City & Beach earned recognition, with crew Núria Sánchez Nomdedeu, José Manuel Ruíz and Marta Peñarrubia highlighted for their roles. The Spanish Cruiser Champion Tanit IV Medilevel, owned by María José Vila and skippered by Nacho Campos, also stood on the podium at the Copa del Rey. Miguel and Marcos Salas finished as European runners-up in the Sea Rowing Race, while Berta Ramón-Borja claimed the ILC 6 U16 Women’s title. Gonzalo Infante received thanks, as did Jaime Arbones and Jorge Gonzálvez for their participation in the latest Ocean Race. A Special Award went to Kiko Sánchez Luna, presented by Ford Movilsa’s Ruth Candela for organizing the 420 World Championships sponsor. The gala’s most emotional moment was the posthumous recognition of Jesús Cosgaya, who helped embed canoeing as a core asset of the club.
