Rowing continues to bring pride and joy to Real Club de Regatas de Alicante, which has celebrated notable success in national and international competitions over the recent months.

An emblematic example of this achievement was the ninth edition of the Iberdrola Spanish Sea Rowing Championships. The event gathered more than 600 paddlers from across the country. The home club stood out as a winner, with the competition organized by the Spanish Rowing Federation, the Valencian Community Rowing Federation, and the Alicante Royal Regatta Club, supported by the PAC CV program and backed by the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Alfonso Foundation of Trinidad.

This open water discipline tests the sailors’ endurance and steering ability as they navigate courses ranging from three to six kilometers, depending on the heats and category. More than 600 rowers representing 42 clubs competed across 23 categories, including solo, double, and quad, with male, female, and mixed events at senior and junior levels.

The host club, Royal Alicante Regatta Club, topped the podium 16 times in total. Across the 22 methods, local athletes claimed gold in seven events, including mixed experienced double, women’s experienced quad, and men’s experienced double. Students’ doubles and junior men’s units also earned golds in various configurations, highlighting the depth of talent within the club.

Mediterranian Games

Continuing the federation’s proud run, Miguel Salas Cordoba earned gold in the Mediterranian Games, a multi-sport event supported by the Olympic Movement. He clinched the Beach Sprint title in the individual discipline along the coast of Heraklion, Greece.

Coupe de la Jeunesse

Gold medalist Lucia Navarro Blasco sprang onto the scene at the inaugural edition of the Beach Sprint feature in the Coupe de la Jeunesse. Competing at the European level in the C1x format, she raced in Marina di Castagneto, Italy.

European Sea Rowing Championships

In another major continental event, the European Sea Rowing Championships and Beach Sprint were held in La Seyne-Sur-Mer, France. The Salas brothers, Miguel and Marcos, twice placed second on the six-kilometer course in the long-distance test.

In the Beach Sprint discipline, teams representing their country, including CJMix2X created by Manuel Vera and Lucía Navarro, earned a bronze medal for the club. Lionel Jimenez served as the federation coach.

Beach Sprint and Long Distance World Championships

The national team featured Lucia Navarro, Miguel Salas, and Sergio Lopez in the junior category, under the guidance of federation coach Lionel Jimenez. The World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals took place in Barletta, Italy, covering both senior and junior divisions.

In the senior category, the trio fought to the finish with Miguel and Sergio securing sixth place. Lucia Navarro placed sixth in her discipline. This event was among those recognized as part of the lead-in to the 2028 Olympic program announced for Los Angeles. In a return appearance, the Salas brothers competed together again and achieved eighth place among 42 teams, a strong result for two young competitors.
