Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia has wrongly identified Katarzyna Sójka, PiS MP and former Minister of Health, as one of the participants in the battle for the Sejm on February 7. The politician asked for a correction and apology from the parliamentary podium. Hołownia apologized, but when the MP – not satisfied with the explanation – wanted to speak again… he closed the discussion.
On Tuesday afternoon, Marshal Hołownia announced that he would recommend to the Sejm Presidium to impose the maximum penalty on seven PiS MPs who clashed with Marshal Guard officers during an attempt to introduce Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik to the Sejm. Later that day, after a meeting of the Sejm Presidium, Vice-President Monika Wielichowska announced that these MPs had been punished by depriving them of their parliamentary allowance for a period of three months. These were Małgorzata Gosiewska, Katarzyna Sójka, Edward Siarka, Jan Dziedziczak, Antoni Macierewicz, Jacek Bogucki and Jerzy Polaczek.
On Wednesday, before the start of the meeting, Hołownia told journalists that an error had been made and that MP Sójka had been wrongly declared as a participant in the above-mentioned events for the Sejm.
Sójka: I was falsely slandered
At the very beginning of the Sejm session, Sójka referred to Tuesday’s press conference of the Sejm chairman and said that she had been “wrongly slandered as a person who would participate in any scuffle with the Marshal’s guards.”
I would like you to take advantage of this moment, here in public, and apologize to me, but I would also like to ask you to correct very widely this false slander that is circulating in all media (…). I would like you to correct me and say in broad terms that there was no such situation, because today I officially inform you: I was not involved in any scuffles, pushing or, as the marshal said, choking anyone.
– said Jay.
She reiterated that she had been “falsely slandered and slandered” by the Sejm chairman.
Hołownia: Once again our sincere apologies
Hołownia explained that on Wednesday morning the commander of the Marshal Guard came to him and the other members of the Sejm Presidium to apologize because “MP Sójka was confused with MP Agnieszka Górska during the identification process”, who – as Hołownia said – was a participant in the events before the Sejm, as evidenced by the materials collected by the Marshal’s Guard.
Hołownia added that the commander of the marshal guard was obliged to apologize personally to Sójka.
I have promised to apologize publicly to the Member of Parliament, and I hereby apologize to the Member of Parliament. I want you to be aware that if our officers and our officials make mistakes, it cannot reflect on the image of people who should be above suspicion in this situation.
– said Hołownia.
He added that the Presidium of the Sejm had adopted a resolution to withdraw the financial penalty against MP Sójka, and that MP Górska would address the punishment at the next meeting. Hołownia said that each of the punished PiS MPs, if they submit a request for dismissal, will be able to read the full video material and the guards’ reports.
The Marshal’s Guard, and I, as the person in charge of it, sincerely apologize to the Member of Parliament for this error in identifying the Member of Parliament. Here I end this matter
– said Hołownia.
The marshal apologizes and then doesn’t let anyone say anything
Sójka then wanted to speak again because she was not satisfied with the extent and form of explanation and correction of the matter. However, the Marshal of the Sejm closed the discussion on this topic and asked Sójka to leave the stage.
Hołownia added that if Sójka “has other claims against him,” he asks her to “formally formulate them.”
The MP said what happened, I said what happened. Case is closed. Please state formally what you now expect from me, the Presidium of the Sejm and the Marshal Guard.
– he said.
From MP Sójka’s statement it can be concluded that she expected Hołownia to apologize to all media outlets that published false slander about her.
I would like to ask you to leave the stage, Madam President. The information provided was corrected through the exact same channel through which it was provided. And twice
– said the marshal.
Madam Member of Parliament… Madam Member of Parliament, please leave the rostrum
– he repeated as the PiS politician continued to try to make his voice heard.
