The commander of the Marshal Guard, a sub-inspector, sent a letter to MP Katarzyna Sójka expressing regret over a mistaken reference that named her among MPs who allegedly violated an order on February 7 in the Sejm area overseen by the Chancellery of the Sejm.
The letter appeared on Wednesday on the 10th platform of the Sejm Chancellery.
The commander’s letter to MP Katarzyna Sójka conveyed remorse for the erroneous mention of her name among the MPs who were said to have breached the order on February 7 in the Sejm district administered by the Chancellery of the Sejm.
The Sejm Chancellery noted this and attached a photograph of the letter to the entry.
Misinterpretation of the video material
The commander clarified that the incident stemmed from an incorrect interpretation of video footage recorded on February 7.
After another thorough review, it was found that the conduct attributed to the MP had in fact been carried out by another member of parliament.
– said Michał Sadoń. He stressed that existing footage shows that Katarzyna Sójka did not commit any act of physical or verbal aggression toward officers under his command.
Sadoń also indicated that a correction regarding the MP’s role in the February 7 events had been forwarded to journalists accredited to the Sejm and to major editorial desks, including the Polish Press Agency.
Punishments for PiS MPs
On Tuesday afternoon, Marshal Hołownia indicated that he would urge the Sejm Presidium to apply the maximum penalty to seven PiS MPs who clashed with Marshal Guard personnel during an attempt to introduce Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik to the Sejm. Later that day, after a Sejm Presidium meeting, Vice-President Monika Wielichowska (KO) announced that these MPs had their parliamentary allowances suspended for three months.
The punished MPs included Małgorzata Gosiewska, Katarzyna Sójka, Edward Siarka, Jan Dziedziczak, Antoni Macierewicz, Jacek Bogucki and Jerzy Polaczek.
On Wednesday morning, Hołownia said that the guards who analyzed the footage had misidentified the person in question; they mistook MP Agnieszka Górska for MP Katarzyna Sójka. He added that the financial penalty against Sójka would be withdrawn.
The Sejm Information Center also issued a statement noting that the Commander of the Marshal Guard apologizes for misleading the Sejm Chairman and Presidium in the report about events before the Sejm on February 7.
It was clarified that the seventh individual involved in the disrupted order and the altercation with the Marshal Guard was not MP Katarzyna Sójka but MP Agnieszka Górska. The commander will personally apologize to MP Sójka today. The Presidium of the Sejm adopted a resolution to revoke the financial sanction against Sójka; the matter concerning Górska’s punishment was to be addressed at the next meeting.
– emphasized.
Soliciting a public correction, Katarzyna Sójka asked the Sejm president to clarify her words or provide evidence that she had engaged in any pulling, pushing, or strangling of the Marshal’s Guard. In a communication about the matter, Sójka urged formal action if necessary.
