If the head of the PO returns to the strategy of all-out war against the president, we are ready to face it. We want meaningful cooperation with a potential government led by the current opposition, Marcin Mastalerek, head of the president’s office, told Wprost.
When asked whether the president was preparing for war with the new administration, Mastalerek recalled the maxim: “If you want peace, prepare for war.”
But what the president really wants is peace and cooperation
– he emphasized.
Difficult to live together
He noted that President Duda remembers what the coexistence between President Lech Kaczyński and Prime Minister Donald Tusk was like.
The president recently said he hoped Donald Tusk had changed. Let us not forget that it was he who started the political war after losing the presidential elections in 2005. A war that lasted for years and unfortunately still continues
– he assessed.
However, if the head of PO returns to the strategy of 2007-2010, the strategy of all-out war against the president, we are ready to face it. In an intelligent but firm manner. We want meaningful cooperation with a potential government led by the current opposition. Donald Tusk must answer the question: does he want peace or war? – Mastalerek commented.
When asked if the president was “preparing his own revenge” and was ruthless, he assured that “the president is reaching out to all people who are willing to work together, not only parliamentarians, but also local government officials and social organizations, to achieve a to build a broad coalition. of Polish issues on the most important issues for Poland. That’s the goal.”
As he noted, these issues are the security of the country and its citizens. Military security, security of our borders, but also energy security. Social Affairs. Building a country that cares for the dignity of all citizens.
Mastalerek also said that it is in the interest of the entire United Right camp to “point to the legacy of Andrzej Duda.” He argued that he had achieved “great achievements”.
Without Andrzej Duda, there would be no significant changes in social issues, such as lowering the retirement age, the introduction of the Family 500 Plus program, support for seniors – 13 and 14 pensions and many other things, making millions of people Polish citizens finally began to live with dignity. The president promised this during the 2015 campaign. And he kept his word. I will say more: without Andrzej Duda there would be no United Right government at all. After all, it was his victory eight years ago that opened the door to change in Poland, and his 2020 victory allowed this ambitious economic and social program to continue.
– he said.
He also pointed to activities related to Poland’s response to Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Who has built good relations with Kiev? And this was long before the outbreak of full-scale war. Who motivated NATO to take action? Did he actively seek to strengthen the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance and ensure the permanent presence of American troops in Poland? Who spoke to President Biden?
– He asked.
“The historic role of the president
Mastalerek assessed that “Andrzej Duda played a historical role in the context of Ukraine.”
Mastalerek was also asked how the presidential palace is preparing “for the removal of its foreign policy powers,” especially since Radosław Sikorski – who clashed with President Lech Kaczyński on these issues – will now become the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Business again.
The government and the president share foreign policy powers. Everything is determined by the constitution and by subsequent rulings of the Constitutional Court. And also the so-called the Competence Act on Cooperation in Foreign Policy, which was adopted at the request of the President
– he answered.
When asked whether Andrzej Duda had secured himself for the future with the Competence Act, he said that “it might be useful today.”
When asked about the future of PiS, Mastalerek said the future of the United Right was uncertain. He stressed that “the succession in PiS will determine whether this formation will survive and whether it will realistically have a chance to return to the government in Poland.” He noted that it is still too early to talk about who will be the beneficiary of this succession.
Complaint against Jarosław Kaczyński?
Mastalerek was also asked why Jarosław Kaczyński removed him from the electoral list in 2015. The politician replied that he did not want to go back to that.
All I can say is to appeal to the right not to make such mistakes in the future. Because I think removing me at the time was a political mistake. I behaved differently then from the rest of the abused people, I didn’t go to the media, I didn’t pour out my complaints, I didn’t talk about how I was wronged and I didn’t come to the other side, even though I had such suggestions.
– he said.
The head of the president’s office was also asked whether he held any grudge against the PiS president.
In 2010, I had the opportunity to accompany Jarosław Kaczyński on his way to Smolensk, a few hours after the disaster. We flew on a private plane at the time. For me personally it was an extremely important event. Political and private. That disaster was the most tragic event in the history of Poland after 1945. (…) Jarosław Kaczyński behaved like a statesman. You ask me what I feel? Respect
– he said.
He noted that the PiS president will decide who will be Jarosław Kaczyński’s successor.
The party is structured in such a way that it is de facto Jarosław Kaczyński’s personal party. This will be his extremely important responsibility, to whom he will transfer it, so that in ten, twenty, thirty years it will still be a group that plays an important role on the Polish political scene.
– he said.
If PiS wants to have a chance, Jarosław Kaczyński must decide whether to adopt an exclusionary or an inviting formula.
– he assessed.
