Israel, U.S. Deepen Security Cooperation Amid Iran Tensions

During a call with Pentagon head Lloyd Austin, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant outlined several pressing topics, notably the risk posed by Iran and its nuclear pursuits alongside regional behavior. Gallant shared these reflections on his social media, highlighting a broader agenda for U.S.-Israel collaboration.

Gallant emphasized that deeper cooperation between Jerusalem and Washington is essential. The two allies must align to confront both regional instabilities and global security challenges in a shared, proactive manner.

Israel completed a political transition at the end of December 2022 with the swearing-in of a new government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the Knesset.

On January 2, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, focusing on strengthening strategic ties between the two nations. The discussions also underscored the importance of upholding the Abraham Accords, the normalization pacts with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco designed to stabilize regional relations and foster coordinated action on issues such as preventing Iran from advancing a nuclear program, as reported by Gazeta.ru.

In related conversations, both sides signaled a shared commitment to sustaining robust, long-term security cooperation, including joint efforts to deter nuclear proliferation and to promote stability across the Middle East. The dialogue reflected a mutual understanding that a coordinated approach benefits regional peace, economic resilience, and defense readiness for both countries.
