Iberdrola now operates 8,100 public charging points across Spain, after activating more than 25% of the points installed during 2024. This milestone reinforces its position as the country’s largest public electric vehicle charging network.
Alongside this infrastructure already in operation, nearly 4,000 additional points are being added, with many in construction or awaiting various administrative approvals. When completed, they will be available in the coming months, expanding access to charging across the country.
Of the 8,100 points in operation, 27% are fast, ultra-fast, or high-power charging. That means 2,140 Iberdrola chargers can restore about 200 km of range in roughly 5 to 40 minutes, enabling numerous trips across Spain in a sustainable way. The more-than-50 kW stations form part of the network operated by the Iberdrola | bp pulse alliance.
Since the start of the year, the company has continued to commission 10 charging points every working day, demonstrating its commitment to electric mobility, a transport option that helps improve air quality and create more sustainable spaces.
Iberdrola’s electric mobility strategy centers on installing charging points with different power levels to allow users to choose the option that best fits their needs at any moment.
Thus, its charging points under 50 kW are located in places where drivers tend to stay longer, such as shopping centers or supermarkets; while the aim for fast charging stations is to place one every roughly 50 km to support long-distance travel.
All Iberdrola charging points run on 100% green energy sourced from renewables with a Guarantee of Origin, helping to combat climate change and support a transition away from fossil fuels.
Users can access the network through Iberdrola’s Public Charging App, highly regarded in the sector, which lets them view and geolocate verified charger information, check real-time operability, and reserve and pay from a mobile device.
Private charging
Iberdrola’s move into private mobility also extends to corporate and residential clients, expanding beyond the public network to reach over 50,000 charging points in total.
In the private sphere, it offers home charging options with a highly competitive sector rate, enabling roughly 1,000 km for about 5 euros, and for businesses it provides turnkey products from design and installation to maintenance and management of charging points.
Pioneers in sustainable mobility
The company launched its mobility plan in 2016, a pioneering move that set the tone for action. Today, the strategy envisions installing more than 100,000 charging points by 2025 across public, residential, corporate, and parking locations.
High-power charging points have been developed and operated since last year by the Iberdrola | bp pulse alliance, a 50:50 collaboration between the two companies to lead the deployment of fast and ultra-fast public charging for electric vehicles in Spain and Portugal.
