Iberdrola and Vectalia announce new electric vehicle charging network in Alicante

A cooperative agreement has been reached between Iberdrola and Vectalia to install a comprehensive set of electric vehicle charging points in a central Alicante location. The project focuses on a parking area next to the Estacion street, facing the Provincial Assembly and within easy reach of the city’s main rail station. The goal is to offer reliable charging options round the clock for residents, workers, and visitors alike, supporting cleaner mobility in the heart of the city.

The plan calls for a mix of power levels to serve diverse needs. Two 150 kilowatt dual ultra-fast chargers will enable rapid recharge for electric vehicles, while six additional 50 kilowatt fast charging units provide convenient options for longer stays. Two 22 kilowatt dual semi-fast chargers will support simultaneous charging for up to 14 vehicles at once, ensuring broad access at any hour. Iberdrola has highlighted this installation as its most powerful public charging hub in the town to date.

The agreement was formalized by Antonio Arias, Vectalia CEO, and Luis Buil, Iberdrola’s Director of Smart Solutions for Transport and Mobility in Alicante. The citywide project entrusts Vectalia with the land and governs the operation and maintenance of the chargers, while Iberdrola supplies the equipment and handles installation. The collaboration underscores the private sector’s role in expanding sustainable urban mobility.

Antonio Arias emphasized Vectalia’s commitment to energy efficiency and electromobility, describing the project as a step toward a pioneering public car park in Alicante characterized by a steady, incremental rollout of charging points across the square grid. He framed the initiative as a long term upgrade that progressively equips more spaces with modern charging hardware.

Luis Buil echoed the sentiment, stressing the importance of private sector involvement in advancing sustainable mobility. The aim is to reduce emissions through electrified transport and to contribute to cleaner air in cities by improving charging accessibility.

Vectalia expands its electric vehicle fleet

Users of the new charging facilities will have access to 100 percent renewable energy with a verified origin certificate. The charging points will be listed in Iberdrola public charging applications, which allow users to locate chargers in real time, manage reservations, and complete payments via mobile devices.

Sustainable mobility

Iberdrola’s sustainable mobility strategy prioritizes a broad deployment of charging points across homes, workplaces, and city streets. The plan envisions expanding ultra-fast stations above 350 kilowatts, along with fast and standard fast charging options to support diverse vehicle needs as the electric landscape evolves. This framework aligns with broader efforts to enable seamless charging across urban and suburban networks in the coming years.
