Gastronomic Week: Menjars de la Terra in Alicante Mountain region

Five restaurants take the stage as part of the Menjars de la Terra events, spotlighting the regions of l Alcoià, El Comtat and Foia de Castalla starting tomorrow. From Monday through Friday, a different venue will host a night of refined dining, inviting lovers of high cuisine to a memorable gastronomic week. The gatherings are public, and reservations are arranged directly with the chosen restaurant. This event offers a premier chance to sample the recommendations selected by the Menjars de la Terra organization, showcasing the province of Alicante from peak mountain views.

Tomorrow Monday marks the opening with the restaurant Lolo in Alcoy, a cornerstone of local gastronomy. On Tuesday the 21st the showcase moves to Castalla with Whiskey, followed by Cocentaina on Wednesday the 22nd featuring New Scraper. Thursday the 23rd arrives with RQRin in Ibi, and Friday the 24th concludes with Racó and Mushrooms in Balones, finishing the week with a robust, traditional flavor.

On this occasion the mountain cherry from Alicante and the classic Alicante spirits will take a central role. The INFORMACIÓN newspaper has brought Menjars de la Terra into a refreshed format to highlight the province and its diverse regions, supported by the Provincial Assembly.

Beginnings

Joselito acorn fed jowl with crystal bread, Perican salad, codfish and aladróc croquettes, crispy spring onions in season, xop bolt sirloin medallions.

Main course

Cod with cauliflower rice, a regional specialty of Alcoy.

Sweet

A dessert of our Black Forest with cherry compote and brandy rolls infused with Herbero de Mariola.

White Vega Cuyar wine from Bodegas Alejandro, a Alicante DO, and red wine from Enrique Mendoza, Cabernet-Monastrell, Alicante DO. Water, soft drinks and a selection of beers are available.

Homemade bread with Mariola herb butter, regional sausages, priest’s fairy, candied artichoke flower with sobrassada and Mariola herbal reduction, arugula salad with parmesan and a local cherry sauce.

Nougat fritters from Jijona with a touch of cherry sweetness.

Wednesday, March 22 New Rasp Cocentaina

Beginnings

Olives with garlic and pepper, sweet potato pie with foie gras and herbero gel, perican with EVOO Selection 1916, broad beans sautéed gently, a low-temperature egg with sautéed mushrooms and truffled potato parmentier, Mentirta Contestana tasting.

Main selection

Boiled cheeks with cherry sauce, dry rice from Bajoca Farcida.

Sweet

Alicante Mountain cherry ice cream with cream cheese.

Thursday, March 23 RQR Ibi

Beginnings

Sagi, aladroc and bollite croquettes, crispy pixie, oysters with caviar and Alicante Mountain cherry granita, farinetes with weary Iberian Joselito.

Cod giraboix, shoulder and rabbit with llegumet.

Sweet

Aove with white chocolate soup, orange cake and thyme ice cream, chocolate bonbons with Herbero and pigeon.

Friday, March 24 Racó del Seta Balls

Beginnings

Hot dried fruit salad with cherry sauce and EVOO from the local Manzanilla variety, escalibada with seafood and Blanqueta EVOO, cod pericana with local dried garlic and chili, scrambled eggs with artichokes and shrimp using Picual EVOO.

Main course

Olleta de la Montaña with trotters and pork ribs.

Sweet

Homemade tiramisu, old oils tasting interpreted by Castell de la Costurera.
