A judge overseeing the case in the death of María Isabel Suárez, a relative linked to a prominent actor, has decided to charge the caregiver who attended to the elderly woman during the final months of her life. The decision was reached by the head of Investigation Court Number 9 in Arganda del Rey after reviewing statements from the main defendants and evaluating multiple proceedings in recent weeks.

Three individuals remain under investigation in connection with the death: the actor Luis Lorenzo, his wife Arancha Palomino, and the caregiver at the center of the inquiry. The judge based the charges on evidence suggesting that the caregiver may have played a role in the events surrounding the woman’s passing, aligning with lines of inquiry outlined earlier in the Civil Guard investigation.

On June 15, the caregiver testified before the court as a witness, recounting the noticeable deterioration of the 85-year-old woman in the final months of her life. The testimony described a shift from independence to dependence, a transition noted by a family lawyer and others involved in the case. The caregiver did not address questions about specific substances found in the deceased’s blood during the autopsy that day.

The autopsy, completed with results released on January 24, reported the cause of death as poisoning connected to a murder etiology. However, subsequent reports by two forensic experts raised the possibility that natural causes could not be completely ruled out, creating ongoing questions about the exact factors behind the death. The autopsy also revealed elevated levels of certain elements in the deceased’s blood, prompting further examination and consideration within the investigation.

The manager of the caregiver-providing company for María Isabel Suárez recently testified before the magistrate as well. She described the neglect faced by workers, including inadequate access to basic hygiene items such as diapers and toothbrushes, a factor that the defense and prosecution have cited in evaluating overall care conditions at the time.

Earlier this week, the judge scheduled additional statements from medical professionals who treated the deceased, including the physician who issued the death certificate. These testimonies are part of a broader effort to reconstruct the timeline and assess the care environment surrounding the unfortunate death, as the case continues to unfold in court.
