Isabel’s Care Deterioration and Alleged Abuse Examined by Civil Guard Testimony

The account portrays Arancha as a domineering presence whose self-importance often clashed with Luis and the children. Allegations describe neglect toward Isabel and hurtful remarks about her. The details come from a Civil Guard testimony gathered by Mari Carmen, the first caregiver to look after Isabel in May 2021 after Isabel moved into her niece’s home in Rivas-Vaciamadrid. The caregiving period lasted six days and involved Arancha Palomino and her partner, who served as her assistant and actor, respectively.

According to the statement reviewed in the course of Prensa Ibérica’s inquiry and CASO ABIERTO, the caregiver noted early difficulties with participating in Isabel’s treatment. The elder woman, Isabel, was allegedly exposed to toxins linked to the marriage, including cadmium and manganese. When the caregiver arrived, the house was described as dirty and unhygienic. Isabel was placed in a nursery area on a low bed not suited to someone with limited mobility. The bathrooms were said to be unusable for Isabel because they caused distress, and she was sent to the toilet in the garage.

The caregiver recounted descending to the garage the day after starting work to locate Isabel, who had been left alone downstairs for extended periods. Arancha claimed she would bathe Isabel, yet the next day Isabel had not yet been showered.

“He ate the sandwiches I brought”

The caregiver stated that the couple did not change their clothes and most of Isabel’s belongings were packed into a small travel bag, consisting of a pair of pants, a brush, and a cream. Food was scarce at home, with only basic items like milk and cookies available. The caregiver had to provide her own meals and fed Isabel the sandwiches she had brought because Isabel requested food and there was nothing else available. The caregiver expressed deep sadness about the situation.

According to Arancha Palomino’s testimony, Isabel was said to be responsible for giving her aunt the medicine after each meal and claimed responsibility for the medications. The caregiver states she never saw the drugs. An autopsy later revealed that Isabel received four different antipsychotic drugs: quetiapine, risperidone, aripiprazole, and haloperidol. These were prescribed by different doctors, and the coroner noted it was unusual to administer four antipsychotics concurrently.

“an obstacle”

The woman described Isabel as a good and caring person, noting that despite mistreatment, the actor and his wife did not manage care properly. She observed Luis as quiet yet highly manipulative, able to influence Arancha at will. The caregiver described Luis as distant and difficult to trust. She claimed their shared son frequently kicked Isabel, and that the elder son laughed during these episodes, suggesting a troubling environment.

She added that the family paid little attention to Isabel’s daily needs. Isabel often asked why she had been brought there and expressed a wish to return to Asturias, not understanding the reasons for her relocation to Madrid.

they didn’t pay him

After six days, the caregiver left the house in anger and reported that no payment had been made. She described a situation where a judge needed to come to the home to sign off on something, yet money was unavailable. The caregiver acknowledged that the marriage deteriorated as a result, recounting that she refused to continue working under the contract’s terms and that Arancha began insulting her and threatening to contact the agency. She left the home in tears, feeling deeply unsettled by the experience.

The narrative contrasts with another caregiver’s account who is currently under judicial review. This second caregiver tended to Isabel for the last six weeks of her life and described Isabel as well cared for while living with her nephew in Asturias, where she had preferred to stay, citing loneliness at her own home. A judge in Arganda del Rey is reportedly keeping both the actor and his wife under investigation along with the most recent caregiver. The Civil Guard’s latest report indicates a plan to financially spoil Isabel was present but failed, and that she was mistreated and isolated until her death. [cite: Prensa Ibérica CASO ABIERTO]
