Resident Evil 4 Remake is packed with treasures spread across three main regions. Some are tucked behind clever puzzles, while others sit behind small keys. When you find a locked chest or drawer, the treasure waits behind the key you still need to locate, no matter the order you tackle things in.
Whether players are chasing merchant treasure maps or simply grinding for cash, below are every location where Small Keys hide throughout the game. If curiosity strikes about what each locked box conceals, that information appears in the final section.
For every locked chest discovered in Resident Evil 4 Remake, there is a tiny key hidden somewhere within the same region. They can be opened in any sequence, and any key can unlock any box.
One crucial note: after passing the point of no return in a region, backtracking to grab missed treasures becomes impossible unless a save was made beforehand. If a new game is started and saved after finishing the prior playthrough, treasures must be collected again.
A total of eight Small Keys can be collected during the first two regions. There are no locked boxes on the island, so it’s best to gather everything before leaving the village and the castle.
The description notes the chapter where the item first appears, but the key can be obtained any time before reaching the point of no return. In the village, this moment comes when heading to the extraction point with Ashley. In the castle, it occurs upon entering the bell tower.

Reward from boxes
Most crates hold items for sale, yet some contain gems or slots to boost gem value.
Locating all crates is straightforward. A treasure map from the merchant marks their positions, but it does not reveal Small Keys.
Rewards for closed boxes:
- Abandoned Factory Locked Crate: Elegant Mask, 5000 value without gems
- Village Square Locked Crate: Vintage Compass, worth 8000
- Quarry Lockbox at Merchant Mail: Copper Pocket Watch, worth 8,000
- Lakeside Settlement Locked Crate: Gold Bar (L), worth 15,000
- Closed box in the church: yellow diamond, worth 7000, more when paired with treasure
- Audience Chamber Locked Crate: Gold Bar, worth 10,000
- Closed box in the workshop: brass pocket watch, worth 8000
- Castle Battlements: Decorated Beetle, worth 12,000
