In Baldur’s Gate 3, players have multiple routes to uncover powerful weapons and handy gear. While exploring an early location known as the Extinct Village, a chest holding Blueprints from the High Cliff can be found. Picking them up triggers the quest “Complete the weapon masterpiece.” This guide explains how to start and finish the quest, where to locate the Sussura tree, and which weapon is earned as a reward.

How to start the quest “Complete the weapon masterpiece”
The blueprints lie in a deserted village teeming with goblins. Negotiating with them using the power of the illithid can prevent bloodshed. When approached this way, goblins remain neutral, allowing safe exploration of the area.
The target house is highlighted in the accompanying screenshot. Entry is possible by breaking the dilapidated wooden doors or by heading to the second floor where goblin guards are stationed and dropping into the hole in the floor after cutting through the webs.
Inside the room, the chest sits in the top right corner, with a ladder next to it leading to another chest. The latter contains infernal iron that completes the companion Karlach’s quest, described in a separate manual.
Avoid rushing to open the chest, as a trap lies within. Approach with a character who has high Perception and disarm the trap using Astarion or any ally with a strong Agility score.
Take the blueprints, read them, and if desired, venture deeper into the room to reach a forge where the weapon will be forged. Without Sussur Bark, the weapon cannot be completed, so knowing its location upfront helps for later progress.
Where to find sussur bark
The Sussura tree is encountered during Underdark exploration. Access this area through the Broken Shrine in the Goblin Camp, beginning from a Sellunite outpost. Traveling west leads to a myconid colony, and southwest of it stands a giant Sussur tree. The tree’s flowers possess magical-blocking properties.
If there are many mages in the party, be aware that spells, incantations, or slot-dependent tricks cannot be used here. Turn party members into frontline melee fighters because monsters can spawn and summon others as battles unfold.
Climb the tree branches, hold Alt, and locate an interactable cortex area to select “Pick up.” Return to the Extinct Village to complete weapon crafting.
While traversing, keep an eye out for a grey two-handed sword, a dagger, or a sickle. Only these items can be combined with Sussur Bark to forge weapons.
Two-handed swords and daggers are fairly common with foes and traders, but the sickle is found at the sacred pond in the Emerald Grove. It lies on the ground; simply approach the pond and hold Alt to reveal the item. Exercise caution: it is someone else’s property, so consider pressing Shift+C to enter stealth mode and retrieve the sickle discreetly.
How to forge a “weapon masterpiece” – choosing the right option
To forge the weapon masterpiece, visit a blacksmith and place the Sussur Bark from inventory while interacting. After selecting the Combine option, the forge flame will turn blue, and the game will indicate which weapon can be forged.
To craft, drop the gray weapon into the same slot where the Sussur Bark was placed. Only gray weapons are eligible: dagger, two-handed sword, or sickle. It is important to note that only a single weapon can be forged at a time.
Upon forging, the chosen weapon appears with a “…of sussur” prefix. The blade inherits the tree’s traits to block magic, and once the flowers take effect, the sussur weapon can impose a silence state on enemies during an attack.
The full range of weapon characteristics is shown in the accompanying screenshots.
Choosing a specific weapon among the options can be tricky. It helps to consider the squad’s composition and existing gear. If a teammate still wields a gray weapon, forging a compatible item can make Underdark navigation easier.
Unlike armor, weapons are common in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it is likely that players switch to a Sussur weapon after a few hours of play.
