Russian gamers evaluated the strengths of Baldur’s Gate 3 from Belgian studio Larian Studios against Atomic Heart from Mundfish, based on a survey conducted by an online game development school. The study, conducted by XYZ School as part of the Ultimate Education training group, received a review from socialbites.ca and indicates a clear preference among respondents for Baldur’s Gate 3 in the year’s discussion.

Among those polled, 46.6% named Baldur’s Gate 3 the best game of the year, while 32.8% chose Atomic Heart. Hogwarts Legacy drew 12.9% of votes and 7.8% favored Diablo IV. A majority of players, 53%, awarded Baldur’s Gate 3 a perfect 5 out of 5 rating, resulting in an overall average score of 4.6 out of 5. These figures reflect a strong perception of Baldur’s Gate 3 as a standout title in the current gaming landscape, as observed by educators and industry observers following the study parameters.

The survey also explored how widely Baldur’s Gate 3 was accessible to Russian players. It found that 49.6% reported being able to play the game, with most respondents investing substantial time in it. Specifically, 19.3% had logged more than 50 hours, 16% spent between 10 and 50 hours, and 14.3% played up to 10 hours. The data illustrates a broad engagement across the player base, underscoring the game’s reach and appeal across different play styles and commitment levels.

Arkady Stogniy, who leads the Game Design course at XYZ School, commented on Baldur’s Gate 3 in the context of contemporary game development. He highlighted how Larian Studios integrated multiple player-driven elements into a single package, producing a game world rich with events, a strong sense of variability in playthroughs, and high replay value. Such features, according to Stogniy, contribute to a lasting player experience that resonates with fans who crave depth and interactivity in role-playing adventures.

Earlier in the year, Atomic Heart emerged as a contender in the first half of 2023, gaining attention from Russian players who recognized its own unique approach and narrative within the action role-playing sphere. The comparison between Baldur’s Gate 3 and Atomic Heart reveals how players weigh narrative scope, choice, and world-building when evaluating modern RPG experiences.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released for PC on August 3 of the current cycle, with PlayStation 5 availability planned for September 6. The release schedule pointed to later availability on Xbox Series X and S before the year’s end, aligning with typical cross-generation rollout strategies seen in major RPG launches.

In retrospective industry assessments of 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 stood out in some of the major Metacritic tallies, indicating strong reception among critics and players alike. The absence of a narrow score focus in early reviews hinted at a broader consensus on the game’s quality, with attention focused on how players experience its core mechanics and story integration across platforms.
