Warner Bros. and the Gamescom 2022 showcase gave fans a fresh look at a highly anticipated title in development. The team behind Hogwarts Legacy opened up about new details and content that go beyond expectations, offering a glimpse into what players can explore in this expansive magic-filled world. The video sequence titled Sebastian Sallow’s Dark Legacy spotlights the darker corners of the Hogwarts universe, hinting at perilous locations, formidable enemies, and a range of magical creatures that lurk in the shadows as players progress through the story.

Unforgivable Curses

The preview centers on the character Sebastian Sallow, part of an optional narrative arc within Hogwarts Legacy. It delves into the Unforgivable Curses and the moral choices players will face as they uncover the Sallow family mystery and weigh the temptation to wield forbidden power. The material invites players to confront the lure of dark arts while considering the consequences of such actions.

Players begin the fifth academic year within Hogwarts Legacy, with releases planned for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game invites players to craft a unique hero and go through the Sorting Hat ceremony to determine which of the four iconic houses—Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin—will shape their in-game destiny.

Skipping class

In this open-world experience, exploration is a core element. Players can roam the vast castle, uncover hidden dungeons, and traverse secret passageways, solving puzzles that require learned magical skills gained through classes and practice. The setting is anchored in a 19th-century period to preserve the original lore and avoid any direct interference with established timelines.

Within the school, players balance study and action. They learn spells to use in duels, train in defense against the dark arts, dabble in herbology, and master potion-making. These skill sets prove valuable during quests and pivotal moments in the adventure, forming a steady thread that connects classroom lessons to real in-game outcomes. The overarching challenge is to confront threats facing Hogwarts, confront dark wizards, and encounter a cast of characters who harbor significant magical power.

The digital version includes Deluxe Edition content along with a Dark Arts garrison hat and an upgrade path from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.

The Collector’s Edition is planned for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, while the Deluxe Edition features a Dark Arts garrison hat and a life-size ancient magic wand resting on a shaped base, complemented by a Kelpie outfit for the game. Before stepping into the Sorting Hat ritual to determine their fate, players are encouraged to preview gameplay footage to gauge the experience awaiting them in the fantasy realm.
