During the exploration of Faerûn in In Baldur’s Gate 3 we can meet Karlach, a barbarian tiefling, who will join us on the adventure. The fiery beauty, like all companions, has a separate quest – the girl needs help to repair the infernal mechanism that replaces her heart. In this guide we will tell you how to meet Karlah, where to find the infernal mechanic and find the infernal iron.
Baldur’s Gate 3 guides
Where to find Karlach
You can first meet Karlakh by heading north, right in front of the extinct village, which was occupied by goblins. On the way you will meet another companion – the dog Shkryab, who can be invited to the camp.
Go to the river and jump over the rocks, then follow the blood trail east until you come across a fallen tree across the river. Karlach is waiting for us on the other side.
An approximate search area will be highlighted if you start the search for it from another companion – Will. We recommend taking it with you to convince the Blade of the Frontier to kill the she-devil in the dialogue. After some time, Karlach will ask for help with the mechanism in the heart, which is malfunctioning outside of hell.
Where to find the infernal mechanic
First of all, we need to find a mechanic who is familiar with the “infernal” devices. To do this is quite simple – coincidentally, the infernal mechanic turns out to be the only blacksmith we know at the time, the tiefling Dammon. We can find him in the Druid Grove. To somehow keep afloat after the flight, he opened his shop and sold various weapons and armor.
If you’ve already completed the Save the Refugees quest at this point, look for Dammon in the Last Light Inn. In this place he opened another forge and continues to delight travelers with his goods.
Start a dialogue with the blacksmith, with Karlach in the detachment. The tiefling will examine the barbarian and offer his help. To somehow bring about an Infernal Mover, Dammon needs Infernal Iron – a rare and valuable material. Therefore, if by this time you have already found everything you need, pass the iron and watch the cutscene.

If you sold infernal iron, try to remember which merchant bought it. You will most likely be able to repurchase the item, albeit at a higher price.
You’ll need this material again to get through the Karlach quest sequence and further set up the Infernal Mover, so the next time you find Infernal Iron, leave it in the Camp Chest.
Where to get infernal iron
Finding infernal iron is quite easy. The approximate location is marked on the map. We’ve found two places where you can get this material, one of which will almost certainly spawn you in the main story.
An easier and less gory option is to head to the Extinct Village. Convince the goblins not to attack you, then head to the second floor of the house, which is almost immediately to the right of the gate. We’ve highlighted it in the screenshot below. Break open the dilapidated wooden doors and enter the cellar.
Once inside, go to the top right corner of the underground floor, climb the wooden stairs and open the wooden box. Inside will be an unusual sword, a note and infernal iron.
The second place where you can get infernal iron is in the leprechaun camp. Journey to the Broken Shrine. Go straight inside, without going anywhere and passing checks in the dialogues.

On the way you will meet two leaders. One of them will offer a brand, and the other will ask for help in the ritual of talking to a dead illithid. With due diligence, you can simply walk past them in secret.
We are interested in the treasury, which is located at the very end behind the closed door. To crack it, you need to roll 20 or more points. We recommend that you take Astarion, who has the necessary skill, and also bless him with the Blessing spell, which Shadowheart can know.
Inside you will find some enchanted items, gold (527), a few gems and another infernal iron. Return to Dammon to complete the quest.
After that, it will be possible to continue the adventure, and Dammon will ask for time to think about how to fully repair the mechanism. The next time we meet him is at Baldur’s Gate.
