In a collaborative announcement, Minister of Culture Rachel Tamarit joined forces with Teresa Cebrián, president of the Valencia Audio-Visual Academy, and Francesc Felipe, deputy director of Audiovisual and Cinematography at IVC, to unveil a new joint venture. The initiative, named gloVAL, aims to serve as Valencia’s official office for foreign broadcasting in the audiovisual sector. Its mission is to support education, promote Valencia’s productions, and extend the region’s presence into festivals, markets, and creative labs. A number of projects rooted in the Valencian Community are already part of the plan.

“We are laying the groundwork for a robust organism that will raise the international profile of our audiovisual production. Valencia will gain a clear reference point to help projects secure opportunities beyond our borders, while simultaneously strengthening the exposure of our works in top-tier markets and festivals,” the Minister of Culture stated. This upcoming entity will operate under the Valencia Audio-Visual Academy, with financial backing from the Tamarit department. In 2023, the academy saw a substantial increase in its budget, approaching 260,000 euros, underscoring the commitment to the ecosystem of Valencia’s audiovisual landscape. The external broadcasting office will also receive an accompanying financial contribution. The collaboration with IVC’s Executive Vice President of Audiovisual is expected to expand the reach and relevance of Valencia’s productions on the international stage.

Teresa Cebrián expressed appreciation for the minister’s dedication to the sector, noting that the new office is essential for strengthening the industry and making local companies and professionals visible beyond the region. She also highlighted the role of academia in advancing the project. With gloVAL, the goal is to connect the local creative ecosystem with national and international audiences, positioning Valencia as a driving force in outsourced audiovisual work and collaboration across borders.

Office

gloVAL will establish its own headquarters within the Valencia Audio-Visual Academy and will mobilize personnel to implement its diverse slate of actions. Initial activities are planned to commence in the second term of 2023 and will continue to evolve with the program.

The organization will coordinate a range of initiatives to support Valencian audiovisuals at both national and international levels. These include promoting audiovisual projects within government channels and key markets, coordinating participation of Valencian productions in state and international festivals, and driving internationalization for projects under development. The program will also support grant applications and travel assistance to encourage participation by companies and industry associations in foreign markets. Training on festival calendars, participation terms, and guidelines for accessing public and international calls for support will be offered to Valencian audiovisual professionals.

Moreover, gloVAL will work closely with festivals, markets, and laboratories, leveraging the support of the Institut Valencià de Cultura. It will also build bridges with participating public and private organizations, including ICEX, IVACE, MEDIA Spain Office, Catalan Films, and networks dedicated to the internationalization of Valencian culture.
