Among the 38 proposals in the first quarter plan, nine theater shows stand out, including a musical. The lineup features three concerts, four dance performances, a circus show, and ten cinema events presented by La Filmoteca Valenciana. Special emphasis was placed on making theater accessible to audiences of all ages, with six programs designed as family friendly. In addition, thirteen sessions are integrated into the 2023-24 Schools Campaign, combining performing arts with public events such as a Dance conference on city dances or cinema related activities through La Filmoteca Valenciana which blends projection with didactics.

According to the representative, the plan presents thirty-eight proposals described as high quality and emotionally engaging across all performing arts and cinema. The Arniches theater team aims to listen to the public, support Valencian professionals, and remain a reference for family audiences.

Programming

The Arniches venue opens 2024 with a focus on dance. A show on January 12, created by Kukai Dantza, features intercultural collaboration between Max Award-winning dancer Jon Maya and 2023 National Dance Award recipient Andrés Marín, with live music by Julen Achiary.

January 19 brings Cía La Valenciana to the stage with a Valencia based adaptation of a classic by Lope de Vega, directed by Xavi Giménez, Joan Isern, Antonio Lafuente, Mar Mandli, and Raquel Molano, highlighting themes of migration and urban life. The show travels from Madrid to Valencia for this production.

On January 20, music returns to Arniches with La María L’Assumpció. Tanttaka Teatroa closes January with an inclusive theater proposal exploring life with limited mobility through the perspective of a journalist with cerebral palsy and a candy seller sharing intimate experiences.

In February, the Danseu-vos company presents Sorora as part of a loop dedicated to talents from Alicante. Danseu-vos has maintained a permanent artistic residence at L’Escorxador in Elche since 2016. On February 9, the IVC presents its own production I guess, otherwise a comedy about the erosion of relationships over time by Carles Alberola. The program continues with Open Water Swimmer, adapted by María Goiricelaya from the Catalan journalist and writer Adam Martín Skilton. This intimate work explores male friendship with tenderness and empathy, closing February’s slate on a Friday evening. March opens with a monologue by Begoña Tena, a piece that traces a life journey from humble beginnings to present challenges, created in collaboration with Patricia Pardo and acclaimed at local festivals including Cabanyal Íntim and Escènia.

Prominent posters feature Alicia Garijo with the Arniches promotion, which highlights ongoing collaborations and public engagement efforts. A concert by Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana will present choral works of German Romanticism and Post-Romanticism for 23 voices with piano arranged to showcase a rich vocal texture.

On March 9, within the From here cycle, Arniches premieres Hello and Goodbye, an Alicante company Wako Danza creation by Eduardo Zúñiga. The choreography seeks to share language that embraces risk and transformation in movement.

With these diverse offerings, the fifth MOVA Festival runs from March 12 to 17, highlighting culture, artistic creativity in sexual differences, and cinema. The festival features four feature film releases including I love you madly by Alejandro Marín.
