The Leninsky District Court of Vladivostok sentenced two people to prison for a series of thefts of funds from bank accounts of orphans. DV Naydenov was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months, and VA to 4 years. The criminals used hacked accounts on the VKontakte social network to access bank accounts of their victims. The FSB Primorsky Territorial Directorate reported this to socialbites.ca.
According to law enforcement agencies, the crimes continued from October 2018 to March 2019. Seven children from orphanages became victims of fraud. According to the investigation, one of the criminals, Naydenov, was himself a former student of the orphanage. He knew that orphans had open bank accounts where pensions and other funds from the state were deposited.
Naydenov found the orphans’ accounts on the VKontakte social network and sent them messages with false information about winning a phone. To receive a prize, you had to enter your account username and password. After that, Naydenov transferred the bank card details and the victim’s full name to his accomplice Ovoyan.
The data went from Ovoyan to the client manager of one of the largest Russian banks, SB Liletka, which issued fake applications in the names of orphans to buy consumer goods using their retirement savings. The money was then transferred to Ovoyan and Naydenov’s bank cards, while the orphans remained in the dark about the withdrawal of money from their deposits.
In less than a year, criminals stole almost 3.8 million rubles. All three participants in the crime were arrested in March 2021. Liletka was the first to be sentenced; she was also sentenced to a one-year suspended sentence with a one-year probation period.
