Samsung will stop supporting branded smartwatches running the Tizen operating system in 2025. In this respect reports Android Authority portal with links to insiders.
The company’s refusal to support wearables running Tizen affects all Samsung Gear models, as well as the Galaxy Watch, Watch 3, Watch Active, and Watch Active 2.
According to the source, Samsung will ban the download of paid content from the Galaxy Store for devices running Tizen OS starting September 30, 2024. Then, starting from May 31, 2025, the ability to download free content will be stopped, and from September 30, 2025, users will not be able to re-download apps and watch faces.
It is planned to completely shut down all services on Tizen OS after May 2025. By this time, owners of Tizen-based watches will not be able to download new watch faces and applications, so the “smart” gadget will turn into a regular fitness tracker.
Samsung has not yet made a statement about the leak.
Current Samsung smartwatches run the Wear OS operating system, which the Korean company developed in partnership with Google. Samsung’s interface on these devices is called One UI Watch. There’s no word yet on the end of support for modern Wear OS watches.
Previously reportedHe said Samsung will release a “smart” ring in eight different sizes.
