NASA lost contact with the moon-launched CAPSTONE spacecraft

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) reportedLost contact with the CAPSTONE spacecraft, which was launched to the moon.

“After a successful launch on July 4, CAPSTONE experienced communication issues when communicating via the Deep Space Network. The ship’s crew is currently working to find the cause and restore contact,” the message says.

NASA explained that the team had “good data on the orbit of the spacecraft” and had a few days to fix the problem before correcting the orbit of the vehicle.

CAPSTONE’s main mission is orbital exploration for the future lunar station Gateway. It will launch in 2024 or later, placing it at the Lagrangian point between Earth and the Moon. For this purpose, CAPSTONE was launched. The device should reach the target orbit on November 13 as it travels along the optimal orbit due to the small amount of fuel.

KAPTAŞI initiated To the Moon on June 28 using the Electron launch vehicle of the American company Rocket Lab. NASA plans to get astronauts to the moon in 2025 and to Mars in the mid-2030s.
