Vasily Shpak, deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, believes that the departure of the American company Microsoft from the Russian market is a “positive step” for domestic software manufacturers. Announced this on the sidelines of the Innoprom International Industry Fair, reports TASS.
As Shpak explains, Microsoft’s departure in the medium and long term will have a positive impact on the capabilities of Russian manufacturers and the market niches they can occupy.
“I am confident that it is only a matter of time before the issue of a significant increase in the competitiveness of solutions is possible,” says the deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In his view, increased demand and consumer access will allow domestic developers to make “a move to improve the quality of their products.”
He also added that Russia already has Linux-based alternative operating systems such as Astra, Viola and Red OS. In addition, he mentioned the example of Kaspersky Lab, which developed its system in a non-Linux-based way.
