With Message According to South Korean publication The Elec, Samsung is preparing to join the OLED display supply chain for future MacBook models.
Rumors have been circulating in recent years that Apple plans to replace the LCD screens of its MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops with OLED screens. A report from The Elec states that Samsung is currently preparing a production line for eighth-generation OLED panels that will be used primarily to produce displays for future Apple laptops.
Elec adds that panels from this production line will not be used in new MacBook models until 2027.
In contrast, Chinese publication ITHome he is writingApple plans to introduce OLED displays on nine new devices by 2027, starting with two new iPad Pro models in March 2024. According to ITHome estimates, the first MacBook with OLED will be released in 2026.
The advantages of OLED displays include higher brightness and contrast, better color accuracy and lower power consumption. OLED panels are also thinner and lighter than LCD screens. Apple already uses OLED in all iPhone and Apple Watch models except the iPhone SE.
