During the developers video “10 Years Dragon’s Dogma”, Hideaki Itsuno, director of the famous franchise, said the expected ‘dragon’s dogma 2‘ is currently under development. While not many details were given about the launch window or target platforms, the company has confirmed that for now, the game is being developed with Capcom’s RE Engine.
Following this long-awaited announcement came a debate discussing the inspiration behind the monsters, combat and gameplay mechanics that defined the high fantasy, open world action of ‘Dragon’s Dogma’. Itsuno began his developer video by discussing how classic pen-and-paper RPGs introduced him to the RPG genre in general. After these early experiences, action and arcade games became passionate about combat, especially Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter II’. By 2000, Itsuno released several games for the company’s arcade division and began to piece together early concepts for a game that would eventually become ‘Dragon’s Dogma’. But that dream would have to wait as the director was tasked with completing production of ‘Devil May Cry 2’ and its sequels ‘Devil May Cry 3’ and ‘Devil May Cry 4.
After delving into the origins of ‘Dragon’s Dogma’, with the announcement of the sequel, fans were given their first look at what awaits them in the series. Itsuno and the game’s development team, including series veterans Daigo Ikeno and Kenichi Suzuki, have confirmed that they worked hard to create the game and look forward to sharing more details soon. In the meantime, don’t forget to check out the announcement trailer.
