Mexican teams have long been central figures in the history of the Concachampions. They dominate the list of champions, with the top five all coming from Mexico and with Mexican clubs winning every edition from 2006 through 2021. Within this tournament, there have been grim moments as well as dramatic comebacks where a team, seemingly cornered, found strength in unity to overturn a draw and emerge victorious.
In the 2023 edition, Atlas joined this illustrious group by overturning a substantial deficit at home, turning a 4-1 score against them into a pathway to the next round of the CONCACAF Tournament.
