Top performance marks at San Silvestre Crevillentina return to normal
Everything unfolded at home on a brisk afternoon in Crevillente as Miguel Barzola Estevez and his partner Yessica Castany triumphed in the XXXVI edition of the San Silvestre Crevillentina, one of the most anticipated New Year’s Eve races in Spain. The event took place on Saturday afternoon through the charming town streets, with a festival atmosphere that perfectly matched the closing of the year.
Barzola, competing for the Alicante Athletics Club, secured a commanding victory in the 10-kilometer path with a time of 30 minutes and 34 seconds, averaging 3.03 minutes per kilometer. The Argentine-born athlete, who has long called the province home, stayed focused and propelled to the front from start to finish, resisting any late challenge. The runner-up was Miguel Baidal Marcorelated to Valencia Serrano Meat Club, clocking 30 minutes and 58 seconds. In third place was Alex Garcia Carrillo of Club Atletismo Crevillente, finishing in 31 minutes and 16 seconds. The podium finishers earned monetary prizes of 600, 450, and 300 euros respectively.

In the women’s race, the Crevillente event produced a tightly fought contest. Yessica Mas, representing the Albacete Athletics Club, who recently clinched the national marathon title and represented Spain at the 50-kilometer European Championship, crossed the line first in 35 minutes and 45 seconds. She held a slim eight-second margin over Julia Font Gómez of Metaesport, who finished second. Cristina Juan Torres from Elche’s Juventud Atlética finished third with a time of 36 minutes and 27 seconds.
Yessica Mas’s finish line moment was celebrated by supporters as she claimed the women’s crown at the San Silvestre Crevillentina. The event drew a substantial crowd and served as a festive capstone to the year for local and regional runners alike.
Approximately 1,500 runners participated in the XXXVI edition, with 1,229 crossing the finish line. The opening signal was given by Aitana Mas Mas, vice-president of the Generalitat Valenciana in Crevillente, underscoring the event’s regional significance.

In the local rankings the standout performer was Francisco Vicente Macia García of the Crevillente Marathon Club, who finished fifth overall with a time of 32 minutes and 41 seconds. Bruno Alfonso Colomer of the Puerto de Torrevieja Athletics Club and Felipe Egea Fernández of the Crevillent Athletics Club also put in strong showings among the local contenders.
Nazareth Asencio Pascual of the Albacete Athletics Club led the women’s local standings with a 36 minute 54 second effort, placing fourth overall and first among Crevillente finishers. She was followed by Neus Mas Manchón of Club La Safor Teika Gandía and Elena Veracruz Sernarelated of Esteso Runners by Elche in the pack behind her.
In the team category the Torrevieja Port Athletics Club came out on top, followed by Club Atletisme Crevillent and Club Marathón Crevillente, reflecting a competitive field across club affiliations.
Mini San Silvestre
The Crevillentine celebration traditionally spans the day with an all-day athletic program. In the morning, the Madrid Street circuit hosted the Mini San Silvestre for around 160 young participants. Awards went to the top finishers in each category, accompanied by trophies, cash prizes, commemorative shirts, and the customary Crevillent mat as a memento of the day.
